Looks like a pawn shop had it, and sold it for $300.
If they are serious about protecting the status of the knife, they need to lock up some of the people selling them for theft of government property and dealing in stolen goods.
Still, when they are purchased by an authorized individual, they are personal property and can be disposed of however the owner sees fit.

Checking to see if it was stolen.
The eBay sellers has a 100% rating with over 500 items sold.
He won't want to be selling stolen stuff.
If stolen, I'd think he'd want to help.

Good Fake
I am 99.9% sure that knives never got that high in the numbers in the first run.
they changed it to S#### in 08-09 time frame then to Standard SF#### after that in around 2013 to current.
I graduated the Q in Oct 2002 the start of the memo's to get one 0010-0999 issued until end of 2006. Then where did we produce 3000 more GB's and they all got a knife ? I don't think so...
something is real fishy with all the high numbered knifes. (see example) must be getting close to 10,000 knifes out around the world I want to see 9,999 lol
I stand corrected some knifes do have high numbers I am going to walk next door to the museum and ask about record keeping.

From day one we worked from two sets of serial numbers for the Yarborough Knife as directed by USASOC.
One set of numbers was for graduates of the Q Course, the other was for existing and legacy Special Forces Soldiers who choose to purchase their own.

Roxanne is reaching out to the owner. It's not been reported stolen. She said this is a fairly low number.
It's the 2611 awarded to a Q-course grad. The first 1000 were sold to FOG's. Then once they started awarding them to Q-course grads, they add the S or SF

The system is currently down but Roxanne has both #3611 and #3522 to look into.
They said they'd try and get back by Monday on whether they are stolen or not.

The cost of a yarborough Knife?
Who would spend that amount of $$$$$ on a Yarborough Knife??? If you were never a graduate of the Q-course and given the knife what meaning would the knife have for someone to spend that amount of money for it???? Having a Yarborough Knife would not prove you were ever SF qualified???? Tom Kelly

Collectors,,
I belong to a couple knife blogs and it continuously amazes me what people will pay for knives and the extent of their collections.
example:
A fellow on the Randall blog, started a thread about his new Stag handle Randall. Shortly another post a picture of 12 various models of Stag handled Randalls. With costs running 800-1200 USD that was a 10K USD picture, But it was only his Stag Randalls
On another blog, it's 90% folders. I can't fathom owning a Grimsmo Norseman
940, 1100 USD,, for my EDC???
Granted, handmade knives intail artistic craftsmanship. They are things of beauty, but some people go to extremes.
I suspect now that the outside world is aware that the serialized Yarborough is not being given to the grads, there is a sense of urgency to buy what may be a very limited item.

Heck, V-42's with provenance goes for over $10K.
Here we have one that sold for $10,350. Had I had an extra $11,000, I'd have bid on this V-42
