I just don't see leadership under appeasement. We have a rich precedent of supporting our allies, so to threaten attacking one is different. Sometimes it boils down to priorities, as an example during the Falkland wars I remember controversy about refueling Britian's planes and ships at our Ascension Island facility, we went with priorities.
