Old equipment declassified?

When I went to Ft. Gordon we trained with a piece of gear that encrypted voice comms.

It is most certainly outdated by now. Is there a reliable place to find out if it has no security classification?

How would I go about searching and not violating com/op sec?

Thanks!

Try to find out if it's still categorized as a "Controled Cryptographic Item" (CCI), you can usually find out trought eh Property book officer and look at its classification.

Sometimes referred to as the SIIC, Sensitive Item Inventory Code, for handling/storage requirements..

CCI items are not "classified" unless they are carrying a classified key. That said they are still "controlled items".

I'm not in the Guard any longer. So information may be hard to retrieve. I did find this http://www.fernblatt.net/m10.html#a1829

Without giving anything away, I did use one of the pieces of equipment listed here. Those familiar with voice comms may know the out dated ? piece I refer to.
Was trained in the 80's and Guard/Reserve units used these. Regular Army trained in a more advanced piece.

Found this http://www.prc68.com/I/KY38.shtml

If this violates any rule please delete. I remember sighing some papers......

I would find it difficult to believe that the shovel handled pin flipping "keying device" for the KY-38 is still classified. It was old school when I was setting those same pins in 1974.

CSB I trained on the KY 8. Never used in my unit but it was classed in the 80's. And had to sign papers. Fines, jail, etc. Never to divulge.

"Meet me Green" when uttered by a certain Batalion Commander in Germany --meant someone (usually a Company Commander) was about to get a verbal shellacking he would never forget.
