Boy shoots rare albino deer

That's one head I'd definitely have mounted.

For many years, there was an albino buck living in one of our refuges near my home. Everyone I knew who hunted that area always chose not to shoot it because of its rarity.

After a good eight or nine years of seeing it, it simply disappeared. No one ever found out if it was shot, died naturally, or possibly killed during Hurricane Rita.

One thing for sure, it was a beauty to look at.

Albinos are recessive and though rare, not necessarily better for the herd if they are selectively avoided while non-albinos are harvested.

Quite the rack for the young man

For years we had several on the base that were most definitely "off limits" during the occasional bow-hunting opportunities in the cantonment area. A couple of them had splotches & floppy ears that looked like they'd bred with goats; I suspect they should've been simply culled for the herd's benefit. ('Course I can think of some people for whom that would apply.)

Last one met their demise like many deer up here do, as a hood ornament; just no walkin' around sense.
