SSG Dan Cowherd

Dan was on ODA 362 for a while when I was on 361. He was a very large man, always happy and joking around, always willing to lend a hand. He was well loved by many throughout the battalion. He was a great medic and a very cool guy.

As I recall, he was hit by a car while riding his bicycle somewhere in Fayetteville which resulted in a brain injury and a severe cervical spine/spinal cord injury. He fought for a very long time before passing away.

Cowherd, Daniel , 18D, b. 03/08/1967, d. 10/18/1999, US Army, SSG, C/2/3 SFG(A), ODA 362

Rest in peace, brother. We will never forget you or your service to our country.

I will say; “It is to wage war, by sea, land and air, with all our might and with all the strength that God can give us: to wage war against a monstrous tyranny, never surpassed in the dark lamentable catalogue of human crime. That is our policy.” You ask; What is our aim? I can answer with one word: Victory—victory at all costs, victory in spite of all terror, victory however long and hard the road may be; for without victory there is no survival.-Winston Churchill
