This time of year always makes me recall, as a little shaver, asking Dad if I was going to lose my hair too. He then explained about Dengue Fever and decided to open up the "magic" footlocker full of stuff that he seldom went into.
And in the "what were you thinking?" department...

Off track a smidgen...reading that flyer made me remember who made the body of my ‘69 Camaro, “Body by Fisher” I didn’t ever know they made parts of the B-29.
Thanks for that extra little trip down memory lane.

You had me at '69 Camaro.
Somebody had to, I guess, Detroit was busy making B-24's at Willow Run from what I've read... and my Mom was over in Burbank making P-38's.
That Fisher Body plant was not far from my house in Van Nuys growin' up. I understand it was flattened in '98 - progress. (I left in '69, but that was back when that locale was pretty red "Leave It to Beaver" type country. Curtis Lemay would've fit right in.)

I had the privilege to spend some time this afternoon with a gentleman who was a pilot of a C-46 over the "The Hump" in WWII.
Great stories from an amazing man.
Even so, the C-46 was referred to by ATC pilots as the "flying coffin" with at least thirty-one known instances of fires or explosions in flight between May 1943 and March 1945, and many others missing and never found.[14] Other names used by the men who flew them were "The Whale," the "Curtiss Calamity,"[13] and the "plumber's nightmare".

Another thank you to that great generation. Had a number of relatives in that conflict and heard many interesting stories.
Really wonder though if America could survive another war like that one.

A World War like WWII, NO ONE would survive, One side would use a nuclear weapon & the retaliatory response would end life as we know it. I read that the detonation of 100 nuclear weapons of 10 mega-tons each would be sufficient to end life on earth. The U S A has an estimated 25,000 nuclear weapons. The Russians and The Chinese probably have a similar number in their arsenals.
