SF10 Parachute

My company just completed the SF10 Parachute transition (3 jumps) and it's a sweet ride. I was the JM for the first jump and it felt pretty weird spotting the panels at 2,500 ft from a CH-47. It was a perfect day to jump 3x!!!!

I looked out the window after I read your post and it brought back many memories. Clear, slightly warm fall day, a light breeze with a tailgate chopper jump.

And we thought the -1C was a good chute.

I was in 10th when we first got them, back on 00-01, and was amazed at how fun a jump it is. I like the fact that you do a 360 in like nothing flat.

I did some test jumps with it before fielding...I enjoyed the parachute's in air responsiveness and lift capability.

My cherry blast in Wyoming was a SF-10A. Great ride, obviously alot better then the T-10 I had been jumping the month before!

I notice that @ 4 fpm holds from sea level to 10,000 feet.

For you young guys out there, a high speed/low drag parachute does you no good if you never learn to use the toggles to your advantage. You should be picking out a target on the ground every practice jump you make. If you have friends/team mates jumping with you try and get everybody to land close to the target. For team jumps, have a plan and try and group the best you can, day or night.

That slow rate coming down does you no good if you land on rough DZ at night with your feet apart. Follow the basics and keep your feet and knees together.

I remember jumping them at Carson. I was the second out the Bird and the last on down. My TM Medic was behind me and when I finial landed he had start to pack up his chute. I landed about 50' from him. I got caught up in a hot air pocket, as I fell, I looked across Hwy. 115 and saw a rain storm rolling down Mt Rosa. I was dumping air, well trying, doing 360' turns, pulling down on the front raisers. Just try to land faster, Nothing so I just sat back and hoped I didn't get pissed on.

Damn, that is a slow rate of descent. Had we had them back in the day I would probably be a whole lot taller than I am now

We are getting ready to transition to them here but I will be gone before they get them. I am on my way to Carson this summer. I have heard a lot of stories from guys in the unit who were in Carson about how much "fun" it is to jump at 6000 feet above sea level. Some of the guys were saying that, prior to the SF10, they stopped jumping at Carson for the most part and took trips to lower ground to jump whenever they could.

Yes we did almost stop jumping at Carson- to a point. He had to stop jumping high performance A/C because we were ripping Chutes up. The A/C couldn't slow down because of the air, well I was told that. We were jump at the top of the Jump "Envelope". I remember on one jump, we were jumping Sullivan DZ and my Sr Wpn (6'3") got "thrown" into his risers. That why we taped up our Raichle or open hook boots. Well, he fought his way out and land okay. I remember we stopped jumping C-130s shortly after that jump. We started to jump NG CH-47 from Denver (Buckley AAF), but with the wind that would kick up or rain or something we wouldn't jump much. The CH-47 never got they till almost 0830. I remember going out for 15 straight weekend to get a jump. We had to jump weekends becuz of NG. For two months we would try to jumps Sat & Sun mornings. Showing up at 0530 till 1200ish. By 1000 we could jump because of the wind coming off the mtns would pick up. The sun does so wired things, and thank God for the 4-jump rule.

Yes, we started to fly down to Nevada to jump from Nellis AFB; Desert Rock or Springs DZ. Sometime we had some good over nighters. Vegas being right their and all, good times were had. We also went to Fort McCoy, WI for jumps and a JM course.

No jumps for the next 3-day.. U know how A/C just seem to breakdown at the good places.

We jumped only one day.. didn't get our 4-jumps in on that trip.

Damn the bad luck.
