1SG Ned Lyle

Hello,

I am interested in any information regarding 1SG Ned Lyle.

Specifically, he is referenced in Tom Clancy's Shadow Warriors as being the only soldier authorized a bayonet for wear. I am just curious as to the details regarding this unusual decoration. If someone could help point me in the right direction, I would appreciate it.

I have tried searching this forum, google, yahoo, etc with no luck.

If I am stepping on hallowed ground, or have offended anyone in this request I apologize in adavance.

Very respectfully,
Rob

I have never heard of that particular decoration.

I do know that a MSG Ned Lyle picked the Korean Unknown soldier from a group of four caskets in 1958.

The bayonet is an important symbol of the Guard for the Unknown Soldier.

MSG NEd Lyle was awarded the DSC while saving his unit from an attack by North Koreans. He used a bayonet to charge a machine gun nest and capture it, thus being able to turn that machine gun on the North Korean attacking force thus saving his unit.
