POTUS tweeted some eloquent words of encouragement in both English & Farsi to the students rioting after the IRGC fessed up to their "mistake" with the airliner. The Iranians' shit-sandwich is getting super-sized.

I wish he would tweet something like “Just because the Ayatollah’s mother took his diaper off his ass and wrapped it around his head does not mean he must be the dictator of Iran. Take back your country!”

Be interesting if the Iranian protesters start waving US flags like they did in Hong Kong.

Time to send in some A teams

Here’s hoping an indigenous Persian Solidarity-like movement emerges, to expand opposition of the theocracy and IRGC beyond the progressive university types to include the broader and far more numerous working class.

Even if unsuccessful, it could be a forcing function on IRGC’s focus more towards internal regime continuity than further external stupidity that could get them nuked.

Despite everything that has happened, I'm interested to see how well Soleimani will hold up against his colleagues in the upcoming debate.

Pete has requested extra security and refuses to debate one on one with him regardless of which rooftop the debate is to be held on. Joe will not debate him until they have squared off in a push up contest in Carver Hawkeye Arena. Pocahantas has offered him a spot on the her ticket, says they will be a perfect match as her DNA shows she is distantly related to a former Persian King. And Bernie is well he's just mad.

Nicely done gentlemen.

From your lips....
Iranian Journalists Quit (full FNC article here)

Quote:
At least two Iranian journalists at a state-owned media outlet reportedly resigned from their jobs, and another left a while back, apologizing for "the 13 years I told you lies" to her supporters as Tehran grapples with the fallout from protests stemming from a cover-up of its accidental downing of a Ukrainian airliner.

Gelare Jabbari posted an apology on an Instagram that appears to have been deleted.

“It was very hard for me to believe that our people have been killed," the post read, according to The Guardian. "Forgive me that I got to know this late. And forgive me for the 13 years I told you lies.”

Two news anchors at the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting thanked their supporters in separate statements.
These are watershed moments. It is one thing in a country, as Flagg stated, to see "progressive" (different than the US Commies in the Demokrat party) young people in a mass like this, with such outrage. It is another when members of the establishment working class join them and rebel against the repression so publicly. THAT is actually a huge gesture because it is also these young peoples' parents that watched these journalists for the last couple decades.

It’s times like this that I wish I could read Farsi.

I’m limited to the handful of Dari phrases I learned(and forgot) working with Shi’a Hazara in Afghan.

Getting an unbiased and raw sense of news media would be awesome.

Let’s hope there’s offset/non-attributable money and resources flooding into Iran to fuel working class based “sparks”.

QRHELPFUL 2.0

It would be interesting to learn how Iran’s working class is organised.

Unions, athletic clubs, community hubs, etc and what level of surveillance/influence/control IRGC has on them.

I distinctly remember when Solidarity won, and the cascade that followed.

I’m hopeful we can see the same again with Iran, Saudi Arabia, North Korea, China, and Russia.

Look what happens when there's a Veteran in the House...

“If you walk out this hallway, and you take a right and a right and another right, you’re going to come to several beautiful walls that have the names of our fallen service members from the War on Terror,” Mast began. “And I would ask, can any of you provide me with one name on that wall that doesn’t justify killing Soleimani?”

The congressman noted that he still had two minutes and thirty seconds of time left and would “be more than happy” to sit there and wait for an answer.

“Somebody provide me with a name on that wall that does not justify his killing,” he said.

Crickets...

It is obvious from your three posts so far that you have not followed the rules of this site with your first post - and have nothing to add to the conversations.

Your next post should be in the right place and the next after that add something to the boards or you're gone.
