The Internet is a strange thing; I never met the Colonel. But, reading his words gave me a total sense of the warrior and gentleman he was. I miss reading his words.
RIP, sir.

Rest in peace Sir. This time of year, I miss the pictures you shared with us from Vermont. The wisdom and knowledge you shared is sorely missed.

I was on the same fictional A team as the Col during the SFOC in 67. He was a Ranger tab CPT, the XO and our CO was a new Maj. named Smalley. The CPT then was the man I followed in the bush on raids and ambushes, plus our final field exercise prior to graduation. I recall the Col. grabbing me as his E&E partner. Hell, he probably thought I needed his help. He was damn good as he had us laying low and far from roads, barns and anything
during the day. We moved at night when it was cold and raining. He told me the damn enemy will be hunkering down during a monsoon rain trying to keep their equipment and self dry. I never forgot what he said. He helped me make it through SOG in areas with bad guys and nasty weather. The Col, told me back in 67 to move during bad weather.
Sadly, I do not recall the unit he was in on his first tour. He damn sure was competent in the bush. He went to the 5th in Feb/March of 68, I think.

Great story, alright4u! Thanks for sharing. I fear they don't make 'em like the Colonel in sufficient quantities anymore.
Rest In Peace, Sir.

I remember visiting my parents while on leave and driving with my family to a trail head to do some day hiking, by chance, just outside of Randolph, VT I saw a mailbox with the name of "Moroney" out of the corner of my eye... I slowed down, turned around and drove by again just to make sure. Was going to stop by and make a formal introduction the next time that we were in the AO, but sadly never got the chance.
I and my boys are worse for that. Such wisdom in his words here on this site that I would have loved to meet him in person.
RIP, Sir.

I've been thinking the same thing the past few days. Even though I never met him in person, I feel honored to read his words here.
