A 6-foot-tall emu is roaming the Harnett County countryside

"BUNNLEVEL - Laverne Bain likes to look at birds through her kitchen window.

This time, one was looking back: A big, baldish critter with stubby wings and a long, bowed neck.

"That's got to be the biggest turkey I've ever seen," Bain said Tuesday, laughing as she recalled her avian encounter. "That's what I was thinking at the moment. I promise, it was as tall as a pony, just peeking into the window at me."............"

All you Harnett County, NC folks need to keep an eye out your windows.

Those critters have an incredibly powerful kick! A crazy lady where I used to live kept some as pets, and naturally, a few emu's escaped. They are creepy and like to linger outside windows. Some idiot tried to pet one and it nailed him in the ribs, injuring him pretty badly. After that, the sheriff gave permission to a few local cowboys to rope the emu's for capture. They had a heck of a time doing so because emu's are very fast! Was kinda fun to watch.

Sounds like a post-holiday feast, to me.
