Berkeley Kalif, Says "NO" to Free Speech.

You know it's getting serious when the ACLU defends a far right agent.......

Remember kids, if its left-wing socialist-communist violence it's OK. Its only "right-wing" violence that is against the law.

ACLU defends Coulter: ‘We must protect speech’
BY MARK HENSCH - 04/26/17 06:25 PM EDT

Ann Coulter Officially Done With UC Berkeley

The American Civil Liberties Union defended Ann Coulter Wednesday after the conservative pundit cancelled a speech at the University of California, Berkeley, citing security concerns.

“There will be no speech,” she told Reuters. “I looked over my shoulder and my allies had joined the other team.”
“It’s a sad day for free speech,” Coulter told The New York Times. “Everyone who should believe in free speech fought against it or ran away.”

Young America’s Foundation, the group that had sponsored Coulter’s planned speech Thursday, said, “Berkeley made it impossible to hold a lecture due to the lack of assurances for protections from foreseeable violence from unrestrained leftist agitators."

“Berkeley should be ashamed for creating this hostile atmosphere,” the group added in a statement, noting the school police’s “stand-down” policy.

The Berkeley College Republicans, another sponsor of Coulter’s visit, also reportedly voiced fears about the event’s atmosphere.

Officials at Berkeley initially cancelled her planned speech last week, citing dangers over protesters.

The decision followed massive protests that erupted at the school in February, when the same GOP college group invited far-right provocateur Milo Yiannopoulos.

Coulter vowed to speak, however, leading the school to reverse its decision and offer a day in May as a potential alternative date.

The conservative firebrand rejected that, calling it “not a suitable offer” as it fell during the school’s final exams period for students.

...the University of California, Berkeley has allowed "radicals" to supress free speech on campus.

Shutting down free speech on campus ("campus," the home of tenure, i.e., job protection in part to encourage rigorous intellectual and often controversial debate) by essentially threatening brute force...and they call Coulter the fascist.

Phony, fake, Statist/globalist/progressive tolerance on full display.

Dear Berkeley: Even Ann Coulter deserves free speech

(CNN)Are we living in an alternate reality, one in which Bill Maher and Bernie Sanders are sticking up for Ann Coulter?

What could have caused this rip in the space-time continuum? The so-called birthplace of the free speech movement, the University of California at Berkeley, has once again engaged in liberal censorship, this time of Ann Coulter, using the fear of violence as cover to suppress a voice it did not like.

Conservative columnist Ann Coulter was invited to speak at UC Berkeley by the Berkeley College Republicans. Given recent violence against conservative speakers in Berkeley, the college cancelled the speech. Coulter, to her credit, offered suggestions as to how to better deal with any problems -- to expel any students engaging in violence or trying to stop the speech from happening.

That solution apparently was not good enough for UC Berkeley, which instead decided to reschedule the talk, but on a date when there would be no students on campus.

I despise Ann Coulter. But, with everything I hold dear as an American, I also believe in what Oliver Wendell Holmes Jr. wrote: "[T]he ultimate good desired is better reached by free trade in ideas -- that the best test of truth is the power of the thought to get itself accepted in the competition of the market, and that truth is the only ground upon which their wishes safely can be carried out. That at any rate is the theory of our Constitution."

Berkeley should be the epicenter of the marketplace of ideas. Unfortunately, it has become the most intolerant place in America. I would feel more comfortable preaching for Sharia law in rural Mississippi than I would feel challenging the wage gap theory or speaking out against anti-Asian discrimination in admissions at Berkeley.

In Mississippi, I would likely be ignored. Jeered at worst. In Berkeley, if you do not adhere to the Leftist orthodoxy, your speech is branded "hate speech," and out come the shock troops to physically attack you or anyone who wants to listen to you.

Thus far, UC Berkeley has shown that it will use the cover of violence to suppress speech. For example, when leftist opponents to Milo Yiannopolous' ideas engaged in violence, UC Berkeley did not protect freedom of expression, but rather tacitly endorsed the violence by giving the rioters what they wanted -- Milo's speech was cancelled.

The Berkeley government has purposely and deliberately refused to protect right-wing protesters from attack.

Given the violent actions at Berkley of the anti-right, to bend a phrase, in response to every not left speaker of late, I don't understand why (aside from publicity) that anyone right of socialist would want to speak there.

I also wonder how a group like the two mentioned have manged to survive being murdered.

On the other hand, what would be the harm in taking the offensive and bombarding those tards with conservatism, conservative awareness, hetero diversity week, anti safe spaces, dodge ball leagues and meet your local police officer type events? Let them scream and holler about how unfair being subjected to non-snowflake views and activities and lifestyles until they run out of air and pass out. Maybe when they wake up they will start to understand that acknowledging others views wont kill them. Unless it will...

Interesting turn of events...

Quote:
BERKELEY (CBS SF) — Following the cancellation of the Ann Coulter speech at University of California, Berkeley, far-right supporters plan to hold a rally Thursday to denounce what they claim is the attempted silencing of their conservative views, stoking fears of another violent encounter with far-left groups.

UC Police said it was preparing for violence Thursday between militant factions on both sides, even as the speech by the conservative firebrand Coulter was canceled over fears of violence.

Gavin McInnes, founder of the pro-Trump “Proud Boys,” said he would fly to Berkeley to speak Thursday and was encouraging other alt-right forces to make a large appearance at the gathering, scheduled for 2:00 p.m. at Civic Center Park.

In a YouTube video, McInnes challenged the so-called anti-fascist groups, “… our army will be a bigger audience than most of these liberals get when they do talks. So you f***’ed up. Once again, you have created this mythical universe of Nazis on every corner and you’ve tried to shut it down based on that lie. Well, we’re not allowing that to happen. The show must go on.”

The Proud Boys call themselves Western chauvinists who “refuse to apologize for creating the modern world.” They flooded Berkeley in huge numbers earlier this month and appear to be amassing a return visit from such characters as the “Based Stickman” and others who have made their name with violent responses to the antifa (anti-fascist) anarchists.

Late Wednesday, the City of Berkeley urged peaceful demonstrators in a press release to keep a distance from those violent groups on both sides, and not to get baited by provocateurs.

“This is the best way to keep yourself and others safe. It allows police to focus on and apprehend criminals while keeping bystanders safe,” the statement read. “People with cameras who surround violent incidents can complicate the safety of other peaceful bystanders and impede police. When individuals commit violence surrounded by a peaceful crowd, police are always concerned about how the violence might spill over onto those who are not committing any crime whatsoever.”

The statement also noted, “Separating yourself from violence also prevents those individuals from making their actions the image of your cause.”

There have been an increasing number of violent encounters at UC Berkeley between far-left and far-right groups following the rioting which forced the cancellation of an on campus speech by former Breitbart writer and commentator Milo Yiannopolous in February.

Yiannopolous has vowed to hold a “Free Speech Week” in Berkeley with a series of rallies to protest the school’s handling of right-wing speakers.

Unfortunately the violence must and will get worse, perhaps even including death. But if it is a war that Berkeley is looking for then it is a war that they will get. I know where I'd place my bet.

Maybe this time Bezerkly will burn to the ground never to rise again as a hotbed of anti-freedom thought.

The two oldest motivators throughout history is money and pain. They are the only two options that would change Berkleys point-of-view when it comes to free speech.

I'm personally in favor of implementing both and sending a strong message to the violent left.

Hopefully the lawsuit that has been filed against Berkeley will motivate them from both angles. It is unfortunate that the money that the plaintiffs will rightfully receive from this case plus the attorney's fees will likely come from the taxpayers.

I would love to see the defendants that were named personally not be indemnified by the state and have to cough up some cash from their own pockets for the naked hypocrisy and blatant unconstitutional behavior that they have shown in the past year.

I've read a number of lawsuits in my time, and this one reads like a pretty damned solid case to me. Of course, this is in Kalifornia and the Nutty 9th Circuit, so anything could happen through judicial activism.

I am so glad that I don't live in Kalifornia.

Berkely is only an hour away from the foxhole where the 9th Circus Court of appeals defends the soul of liberal treachery...
...no lawsuit against Berkely brought by a conservative will stand the activism of the obstructionists that keep that bench warm

The same liberals that said the POTUS cannot perform the duties of his office as it relates to immigration
The same liberals that say it is unconstitutional to try and force a city to enforce federal law

Judicial tyranny doesn't respect the law so why would anyone think that the sacred cow of liberalism is in any danger of losing a lawsuit?

Take a play out of the SPLC play book and hit them where it counts, in the wallet. Be relentless. Sue them every time and book plenty of speakers to enable this. Their donor money will dry up fast.
