Graduation Logistics

Son is in his final MOS phase with a tentative grad date in July. The difference between airline prices three months before vs. a couple of weeks before will be significant, especially given the number of family members we hope to have traveling (not to mention accommodations). So when can we expect a firm date? Yes, something can go south, but he's been successful with every previous phase, including SOCM and SUT, so I'm willing to bet on him. The only variable is the actual grad date. When does that get settled?

You would have to ask him his class number. also all depends on what his MOS is we have a back log on some MOS's and a shortage of others.
He still has Robin Sage after MOS phase. Never count eggs in the basket while walking to your house always a stone to trip over.
NM he is a 18D

I Jinxed Him

Son calls up this morning. They had 47 guys for 40 slots. Cadre asked for volunteers to wait for the next rotation. Two guys volunteered due to things like weddings and babies. There being no more volunteers, they said, "Okay, this row is waiting for the next round." He happened to be sitting in that row.

So, he's waiting until March to start. In the meantime, he's been told he will shadow the class, including sitting in on surgeries. He just doesn't get his patient and can't actually do anything. There are man's plans, there are God's pans, and there are the Army's plans. The first two sometimes make sense.

Or, maybe not...

There's a long story that I don't fully understand, and would not get into even if i did, but he's back in. Summation, it's the Army being the Army.

I would consider this question answered very well by events.

Reopening this because it's relevant again

Son is presently deployed to Pineland to free the oppressed -- i.e. he's in the midst of his Robin Sage exercise. Assuming he doesn't get hurt or his team doesn't do something to get recycled (there is a story here), he should graduate on 12 July. I don't know his class number. Whether he graduates or not, a bunch of people are coming into town. We already have reservations. But we're reasonably confident he will make it. So...

Questions:
  • What is the venue for the graduation ceremony?
  • What time does it occur?
  • Is there a limitation on the number of attendees?
  • Are tickets needed?
  • What is the dress code?
  • Has Ft. Bragg started requiring RealID identification?
  • Any other useful information?

Appreciate any suggestions

I can't help you with any of your questions but I would like to say it is a very nice gesture to go to those events. It will be very meaningful to your son and to you and the family now and in the years ahead. It will be a very cherished and memorable moment for all involved.

I’m sure everything has changed since 2001, but when I finished Robin Sage it wasn’t the end of the Q Course. We still didn’t “graduate” for like 5 more months. I’m sure it has changed.

Our ceremony was held in the afternoon at the Crown Comlex, a large auditorium in Fayetteville, which would negate all of the security protocols of Ft Bragg.

I don’t remember tickets or limitations on family but I’m old and forget things...

Dress code was dress casual or above. Graduates were in Dress Uniforms. My family dressed up.

Hopefully someone with more recent info can help you. It was important, to me, that my Dad was there.

My Oldest graduated in the parking lot of JFK Center ( in BDUs), Ross Perot spoke. That was across the street from where I graduated, in the small field next to/across the side street form the Museum/Bookstore. His younger brother Graduated @ Crown Complex in town (Dress Blues).

Class 311

Just leaving this here to close the loop. Son is the guy in the green hat.

I've passed little bits of wisdom from this group to him over the past two years. Who knows? It may have even helped along the way. If nothing else I understood more of what he of what he was dealing with, and I appreciate that.
