I was just coming home from the scuba school in Key West.

I was still in high school...
So I run into my pal and he says "I'm going to Woodstock, wanna come??" I was surprised, "Man, you got tickets!?!" "Nah, I'm gonna buy them there or just crash the gate." "Uhhh... I think I'll pass."
One of the smarter decisions I've managed to make. Pal takes his beat up old Chrysler station wagon, it blows up on the way there, he has to hitch hike in and back home when it's all over.
I see him about three days later. Bedraggled, looking about 5 pounds lighter, sorta in shock, like he had to peddle his A$$ to get a ride home. 
Sez I, "Hey man, how was the music.??" Reply "I never got within a mile of the stage.!!"
I'd have died of pneumonia for no good reason had I gone.
Coupla years later we're at a bar at a college town and he's trying to pick up some chick by flashing his hip cultural and revolutionary cred. "Yeah baby, I wuz at Woodstock!!" 
I stick my head between theirs at the bar, "Aw man, tell her the truth, you never got within a mile of the stage!!" Crushed like a grape!!

If we’d have nuked it from orbit at the time, it’s the only way we could have been sure! (Would’ve fixed a lot of today’s issues.)

Oh yeah, was down talkin' to the recruiter to make sure he still had me slated to take some battery of tests Monday down at the "entrance & examination station" or somesuch downtown.
