True - if the Muj hit you, just flash your reflective belt a them. if that doesn't stop them and you have to resort to your FPF, just show your ROE card. Commanders seem to think that's the equivalent of a neutron bomb.

I wrote about this assclownery in my book: "Fighting Today's Wars, How America's Laeaders Have Failed Our Warriors".

This is what I carry every day on my person...

- G19 with Heinie Straight 8 sights, Vickers' mag and slide release, G17 trigger, and a grip plug. Gets carried in a RCS Vanguard 2 or a RCS holster with SF X300 when I'm working plain clothes.
- RCS pouch with 2 G17 reloads
- Emerson CQC7-BW
- RE Factor Tactical bracelet... hard to tell but there's a handcuff key on the buckle, fire starter, P51 can opener, 12' of paracord, 30' of fishing line, fishing hook, and a snare/leader wire
- Mini Bic lighter
- Fisher Space Pen
- Chapstick

I also carry around my badge, wallet, phone, Suunto Core, and keys with another handcuff key on the ring. I'm far from having the knowledge that you all have as far as field craft, and most other things probably, but I enjoy reading and learning about it. This way I'll at least have a small amount of things on my person.

+1 on Kramer.

Their customer service is awesome. I ordered one in 2008 from their website while I was in AFG. The wait time listed on the website was 4-6 weeks.

It arrived nine days after I clicked the mouse.

They apparently thought that was too long for the APO listed.

Anyhow...

Thumbs up EDC

A little late to the party, but this is a very interesting (and increasingly relevant) topic. A couple years back, I wrote an article similar to The Reaper's "be prepared" forum topic, and spun off an EDC article as well, based on a broad approach to managing emergencies. I've changed my thoughts on kit for the civilian/low signature side since then, but here's what I think of as the 'basics':

Line 1 Components

Pocket knife (Benchmade Auto-Stryker)
Lighter/matches
Good Shoes (I like Merrell Radlands)
Thumb drive (on key ring)
P-38 can opener (on key ring)
Multi-tool (Leatherman WAVE)
Rite in the Rain C935 case with the following:
-A notepad with pens, black sharpie and chalk
-Spring Punch
-A rubber band or two
-Safety pins, and a tack
-Bogata Toolset
-Celox Packet
Surefire Z2 with M61L Malkoff upgrade and 17670 battery (rechargable: increases run time from 1 hour to 4, increase lumen output from 60L to 240L)

Optional
Sidearm (I prefer a Glock 26/19, in 9mm)
A reload for your sidearm
A fixed blade knife (I prefer a Shivworks Clinch Pick)
Bogata Toolset
A Paracord bracelet

Thanks for sharing your setups.
Cheers,
Aaron

I've been eyeing the XDs. Having only fired full size 45's, how does it feel in hand? How is the trigger pull and does it have a short reset?

DIY,

It feels good in my hand and the trigger pull reminds me of the G19 but better. Relatively short reset and I dont think I have shot a pistol this small that is this precise. Wait, I take that back, the H&K P7, but that is a whole different story. Recoil is amazingly controlable for a handgun of its size. It will not wear you out after a box (50) of ammo.

You have to fire it to believe it.

Thanks for the info. That sounds very encouraging, especially the ergonomics, recoil and your experience with its accuracy. I was a little hesitant because of that (size/accuracy ratio), but I just may have to go search for one, now.
