So....Afghanistan just beat Scotland at the Crikcet World Cup..so there's always that

So the cricket world cup this year is being held in NZ / Aus.
The Afghanistan v Scotland match up just concluded.
Actually a great match.

Didn't even know Afghanistan was fielding a team, hell didn't even know they could field a team.

Well done Afghan Cricket!

Cricket World Cup: Afghanistan shock Scotland in final over

Cricket World Cup: Afghanistan shock Scotland in final over

http://www.bbc.com/sport/0/cricket/31635759

"Afghanistan beat Scotland by one wicket with three balls to spare to claim their first World Cup win.

Chasing 211 in Dunedin, Afghanistan were reduced to 97-7 but Samiullah Shenwari's 96 gave them hope.

He was caught on the boundary with 19 still required, but last man Shapoor Zadran hit the third ball of the final over for four to seal victory...."

Needs a terp.

I did go to a couple of games years back and could get the drift of the game - but not the details.

I wonder how many of the Afghan players will go home versus staying for the sheep.

Smile

Is this a conversation for English speaking peoples?

With 38 required from the final four overs, Shenwari three times heaved Majid Haq for six over the leg side, only to be caught on the boundary looking for the fourth that would have taken him to a century.
But I suspect American football can sound as bizarre to a foreigner.

Hey! The sheep aren't that sexy here. At least I hope they're not.

But I was wondering the same thing reading the stories of ANA/ANP/NDS who go walkabout while training in the US.

We've only got a small Afghan community here, including some the Aussies forced on us and some terps.

Some of my terps are here. Overall, we have either been lucky, or the vetting has worked.

Ive never met an Afghan that followed cricket. The ones I worked with all loved soccer.

It would be interesting to hear Afghan chatter over it. The Afghans love telling 100+ year old stories about beating the British Empire. Scotland is close enough to fit the narrative.
