My RPD has an identity crisis! HELP!!!

I have an RPD that thinks it is a MG-42. It runs about 1200 rpm no matter what gas setting it is on. It is using the factory spring and everything, the SN on the bolt and receiver match and she headspaces fine. So why dose she run so fast? I never had any of the ratted out ones in Asscrackistan run like that and this is built on a like new parts kit.

You might want to contact Mark Graham at Arizona Response Systems.

He does good work and a following in the AK kit to build family.

I remember hearing this same problem a couple years ago,, but have forgot the fix..

My guess: someone opened the gas port and/or the gas nut is letting to much gas blow by,, the recoil spring set might be to soft..

When you pull the bolt to the rear, does it feel soft or mushy?

I tend to discount the gas port size due to the multiple regulator settings, but they could have overdrilled the holes in the regulator as well, I guess.

I think it is short stroking. All the rest cycle smoothly and this one hangs up hard with just enough room to clear the feed chute. That would also explain the occasional runway issues with it. I will take them all out and test fire them this weekend (my oldest loves the RPD's, but at 9 she has a hard time cocking them). Maybe I can even get some video of the charging handle so we can see how it is running.

Thanks for the help, I will keep you posted.
