But the revolution did not start out as a blue-collar endeavor. The 1979 revolution was very much a socialist revolt, sponsored and paid for by the Soviet Union in an attempt to flip Iran to communist side on the Risk board.

This from the Facebook link couldn't be anymore false. The Iranian Revolution of '79 was opposing both capiltaist west and communist east. The Soviets were petrified of this revolution moving across boarders which it did in A-stan shortly after, removing their socialist influence there. The Soviets also largely aided Iraq in the Iran-Iraq War as well.
The 1979 Iran Revolution was a domestic grass roots movement against both the Soviets attempt of influence and the Western puppet Shah that was in charge. Turns out they don't like foreign influence or western regime change. The reason stable democracies don't flourish well in the Middle East is not just, "they're to dumb for freedumbz." Rather, they lead to installed puppet leaders and what happens when puppet leaders are not installed...??
