Most of the younger crowd tend to forget Iran lost a great number of young men in the 1980's war with Iraq.

Iraq, using border disputes as an excuse and the hoped for disarray of Iranian forces after the fall of the Shah attacked in the fall of 1980.

The next 8 years was like WW I with trench warfare and human wave attacks.

It's estimated around 500,000 soldiers from Iraq and Iran were killed with an equal number of civilians.

This war was also one of the reasons Iraq attacked Kuwait a couple of years later.

But the revolution did not start out as a blue-collar endeavor. The 1979 revolution was very much a socialist revolt, sponsored and paid for by the Soviet Union in an attempt to flip Iran to communist side on the Risk board.

This from the Facebook link couldn't be anymore false. The Iranian Revolution of '79 was opposing both capiltaist west and communist east. The Soviets were petrified of this revolution moving across boarders which it did in A-stan shortly after, removing their socialist influence there. The Soviets also largely aided Iraq in the Iran-Iraq War as well.

The 1979 Iran Revolution was a domestic grass roots movement against both the Soviets attempt of influence and the Western puppet Shah that was in charge. Turns out they don't like foreign influence or western regime change. The reason stable democracies don't flourish well in the Middle East is not just, "they're to dumb for freedumbz." Rather, they lead to installed puppet leaders and what happens when puppet leaders are not installed...??

You get over throw attempts like Syria...

Syria. A democracy with 5 different political parties, an elected leader that has great approval rating and was governed with cultural and economic harmony. Real evil dictator huh? Most don't even know plans to topple Syria's democracy go way back to 2006, to cator to our Zionest "greatest ally" and Wahhabi terrorist "ally."
