Dove opener
Anybody heading out? I will be going to my usual spot on CRIT(Colorado River Indian Tribes) Reservation between Ehrenburg and Parker, Az, on the Colorado River. Shooting isn't that great but we always seem to get our limits. I miss the days back in the 50's and 60's when there seemed to be clouds of birds...

Sounds like fun.
You could always follow that same migratory path to Mexico, I did my best Dove shooting south of the border.

Yeah, definitely better the further South you go. The agricultural patterns have changed. We used to hunt over milo and melons now it's cotton and alfalfa... When I retire, I will be taking a little extra time to find some better spots... But I love that desert river.

Have you ever hunted the Palm Desert, Palm Springs area?
I'd like too, the road side fruit vendors and fields looked inviting. I'd probably get arrested though, hurting someone's sensitivities.

I'm gonna get out there one of these days Mark. I just traded my Auto 5 in for a brand new BPS 12-26. I have a few friends who hunt out there religiously and they've been after me for a long time to go with them. It's still slow though so I'll have to wait till next year. I understand that certain areas of Blythe have gotten pretty crowded over the years, to the point where it's even a little dangerous. Have you ever done Imperial County? I get down there once in awhile on business and there's plenty of open field. Do you hotel or camp when you go? I've heard about the hotel parties during dove season.

My family owns a bit of land 2 hours NW of Dallas, Tx.
100 acres, two very large tanks, and a huge sunflower field... Dove hunters' dream!

I'm going near San Antonio but still have not picked a date. Unfortunately will be towards end of the season.

Please let us know where you're going to be there, so we're not.

W.D.- I have a house in La Quinta on a 6 acre lake. I don't think my neighbors would be too happy if I started blasting away out on the patio..
Mojaveman- I haven't hunted Imperial County since I was a kid. My dad took me to Brawley a few times.

Nope- Strawberries are gone, locally, anyway. Plenty of dates, oranges, grapefruit, lemons and limes... The sweet corn is pretty good this year...
