Zimbabwe's Grace Mugabe given top Zanu-PF post

Zimbabwe's Grace Mugabe given top Zanu-PF post

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-30363052

"Zimbabwe's President Robert Mugabe has been re-appointed as leader of the ruling party, while his wife Grace has been given a top position in the party.

Grace Mugabe's promotion to head of Zanu-PF's women's wing puts her in a good position to succeed her husband in the future, analysts say...."

Been some major PR maneuvers in Zimbabwe to ace out the VP.

Looks like the dictatorship will continue.

Shocking to hear.

They must be really popular there.

You will never lose money betting that an African country under majority rule will go from bad to worse.
It is all a gallop back to the pre-Iron age comfort zone, taking as many glittering knick-knacks with them as possible.

Zimbabwe vice-president Mujuru denies Mugabe plot

Zimbabwe vice-president Mujuru denies Mugabe plot

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-30393680

"The Vice-President of Zimbabwe, Joice Mujuru, has rejected accusations of corruption and plotting to kill President Robert Mugabe.

Mrs Mujuru was denounced by Mr Mugabe last week and removed from her post in the ruling party, Zanu-PF.

State media and Mr Mugabe's wife Grace, who has since been appointed to a senior party post, have conducted a campaign against her for months.

Mrs Mujuru, 59, was once seen as a possible successor to Mr Mugabe.

President Mugabe sacked Energy Minister Dzikamai Mavhaire, seen as close to Mrs Mujuru, on Tuesday...."

If she isn't fleeing the country, she will likely be dead within the week.

I guess it would be serious if she was "caught in secret meetings" at the Chinese Embassy.

Since they were the big winners backing Mugabe/ZANLA way back in the day.

Two things that are Zim related:

1) I was traveling in Africa at the time President Obama won the Nobel Prize.

Well before I got there I thought Morgan Tsvangirai(Head of Zim Opposition) was a shoe-in.

So did everyone I met in Africa at the time....folks were gobsmacked he didn't win it.

2) I remember seeing a black and white photo of Mugabe in his Mao suit lined up with senior Chinese(including Mao I think?) in China back in the 1960's. It used to be easy to find on Google image search. Now I can't seem to find it.

I used to like bringing that photo up in conversations with people about Zimbabwe.

When the question of "who won?" comes up:

Zimbabwean people lost the most
Soviet Union lost backing Nkomo/ZIPRA who got purged out of power sharing
West lost due to political correctness and lack of patience for a longer term reform

China won it all(along with a handful of Mugabe's inner circle). Back before anyone even worried about China.

The Nairobi airport flight boards are a real eye opener.

Zimbabwe's Emmerson Mnangagwa - Mugabe's heir apparent

Zimbabwe's Emmerson Mnangagwa - Mugabe's heir apparent

http://www.bbc.com/news/world-africa-30421768

This story leans towards "crocodile".

"Emmerson Dambudzo Mnangagwa, known in Zimbabwe as "ngwena" or "crocodile" because of his political cunning, is now President Robert Mugabe's heir apparent.

The 68-year-old may be more than 20 years Mr Mugabe's junior, but he is steeped in the political intrigues of Zanu-PF, the ruling party which has its roots in the war to end white-minority rule.

As the announcement was made that he was to be Mr Mugabe's deputy, he looked up, smiled and accepted a few hugs as party supporters roared and cheered with joy....."

Dictators don't like to share so somebody has to go.
