Extending Army Basic Training

Can't impact the pool of potential recruits so make the proper adjustments....good idea.

Everything comes full circle doesn't it? Why did they abandon all those things in the first place?

This is a Quick Fix answer not a solution to the underlying problem which is as the Team Sgt. pointed out in his post. The population of this country are mis-informed by the Main Stream Media to a degree that we are not just a divided country, but a country on the edge of a 2nd Civil War. You have a retired Supreme Court Justice calling for a "Repeal of the 2nd Amendment" 16 & 17 year old high school students acting like "progressive politicians" telling the world how the citizens of this country that should take their advice to save the country by not taking money from the NRA or risk being voted out. The people inside the D C beltway, The "Deep State" Gov. trying to remove the POTUS by any means necessary, The DOJ, The FBI, Special Consul Muller & the criminals in his employ all trying to gain more power and control over this country. OH Extend BCT & everything will be O K; !!! Bullshit, People need to go to JAIL and the MSM liars need to be OUT OF BUSINESS. tom kelly

I may agree with you but that is not the Army's business/job....they are playing the cards they are dealt and looking for a fix they can apply.

Glad they are.

I understand the Army's desire to get the numbers but this is confusing.*

So what was absent; standards, screening systems for the standards, both?

* DISCLAIMER: Hell, I didn't know Basic had gone to 10 wks; that didn't fix anything huh? When did 8 weeks go away?

There's also talk within the US Army Infantry School of extending OSUT fro 14 to 21 weeks to provide more/additional training on marksmanship, live fire exercises, foot marches, CLS, urban ops, squad tactics, and D&C.

Ditto.
When I went through OSUT I definitely felt it needed more in urban ops, marksmanship, squad tactics and live fire exercises. We got plenty of D&C and foot marches IMHO.

Could be that, which would be great for young warriors....or adding in a few weeks to do the "mandatory annual tng stuff".. You know, the important things, like Sexual Harassment and Rape Prevention (SHARP), EEO, Ethics, Combating Trafficking In Persons (CTIP) and such,,, But I am hoping it is for the better as mentioned above

We shall see..

This, and make every infantryman a 68W, in addition to their assigned MOS, with a particular focus on the application of a tourniquet to stop the bleed.

Though I like getting our Infantry more first aid training, CLS (Combat Life Saver) is where I feel it should be. Maybe adjust that course a little, but not making every Infantry soldier a 68W (combat medic). I think making 68W a part of 11 series would definitely eliminate at least half of our Infantry. Training 11 series to deliver babies just isn't practical nor warranted. 68W is way more than just combat arms first responders but includes training as "grunt labor" of the medical care environment (not necessarily combat related care).
I have both MOSs. Although they can each make a better total soldier, both skill sets are not needed nor warranted for every soldier. Though I think I'm the best thing since sliced bread, the reality is that we have specific MOSs for a reason. There is certainly some need and practicality for limited crossover, that is a limited set of skills and not a complete combining of skills. Not everyone can or should be Infantry and or a Medic.
