Progressive left agenda and RVN

Here is a link to a Vietnam education/information site run by a liberal org....really nice and unbalanced effort to teach kids about the war in SE Asia.

This says it all:

ZinnEd - dedicated to historian and social activist Howard Zinn.

To understand his views, you need to read his "People's History of American Empire" - it's a non-fiction graphic novel of his life and views, describing his formative commitment to democracy and America, his Army service in the ETO in WWII, and his post-war studies and experiences which made him an uncompromising critic of the imperial side to America's history; a fierce advocate for democracy, justice, and personal freedoms; and a historian who argued that America is a land divided by dreams of affluence and dreams of liberty for all.

The book is actually an interesting read and Zinn's long-standing POV in a nutshell was: All countries fail to live up to their ideals - America fails to live up to better ideals than most.

Howard Zinn, was part of the ultra left wing movement as I read it. Socialism/Communism is a wonderful thing as long as you don't mind giving away all of your Freedoms.

Zinn was in love with socialism. Anyone that thinks' it's ok to spend other peoples money until they go bankrupt is an idiot.

Let's have a chat about socialism, how are those countries doing these days? Seems every socialist country out there is in deep trouble these days.

Capitalism may not be perfect but it's better than socialism and its big brother, communism.

I see Zinn wrote many books on Vietnam, did Zinn ever write about what the peaceful kind and loving communist Vietnamese did to two million of their own people as soon as the United States left Vietnam? Strange how the ultra-left seem to "forget" those parts of world history........

Nah, the left wing seems to forget about Vietnam after the fall of Saigon. America got what was coming to them for being warmongers and all was right with the world.

I checked out some of Zinn's material. Seems to enjoy pointing out anything bad the US has done.

As did Vonnegut in Slaughterhouse Five. I read Billy Pilgrim as being a coward.

And so it goes...

The Vietnam ‘conflict’ is often called a lost war. While tragic and divisive, the fact that we stood up to the Communist monolith for all those years made them reconsider the will of the free world. No American life was lost in vain; the conflict was bigger than what happened on the ground. Had we allowed the Communists to take over countries at will, THAT would have been the loss.

My Dad (RIP) did 13 months in Saigon at Tan Son Nhut Air Base in Saigon. He was in the Air Force, and I missed him every day that he was away from home.

Most people who I talk to who think Socialism is a good idea tend to bring up Karl Marx. Quoting him as saying capitalism is an exploitative system. Yet when I bring up how Marx never predicted the ability of government to adapt to capitalist short comings with i.e. regulations, unemployment, etc. They look at me like I don't know what I'm talking about.
