I am not one to quote the bible, but where did Jesus say anything about kicking peoples asses?

I can quote it at times...I can research it when I can't...

I would have watched it if Christina Applegate was the star. The fact that she refused the role, proves her to have both grace and common sense.

Matt 5 48-43

Quote:
38Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. 41And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. 42Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

43Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? 48Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

I am tired of people who rag on Christianity and other religions, when in my experience they tend to be the "nice" people. sure, every group has its bad apples. But blanket statements are just wrong.

That's an interesting excuse for paternalistic violence, if not a compelling argument.

Thought the whole "turn the other cheek" thing had to do with not being easily provoked and not being bent on vengeance.
Never understood it to mean submissively being a target/punching bag.

Paul addresses much of this theme in Romans 12.
The punching bag issue is addressed in verse 18.
Quote:
If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men. (NIV)
Paul acknowledges that it isn't always up to you.

A lack of prudently applied paternalistic violence (ass whippings) has been one of the prime causes of the lack of respect so rampant with the Country's youth going back four decades. Lack of respect breeds contempt and leads to a failure of the sense of discipline, which leads to misbehavior which escalates into violence.

I blame it on Spock.

From:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Benjamin_Spock

Political involvement:

In 1962, Spock joined The Committee for a Sane Nuclear Policy, otherwise known as SANE. Spock was politically outspoken and active in the movement to end the Vietnam War. In 1968, he and four others (including William Sloane Coffin, Marcus Raskin, Mitchell Goodman, and Michael Ferber) were singled out for prosecution by then Attorney General Ramsey Clark on charges of conspiracy to counsel, aid, and abet resistance to the draft.[7] Spock and three of his alleged co-conspirators were convicted, although the five had never been in the same room together. His two-year prison sentence was never served; the case was appealed and in 1969 a federal court set aside his conviction.

In 1967, Spock was to be nominated as Martin Luther King, Jr.'s vice-presidential running mate at the National Conference for New Politics over Labor Day weekend in Chicago. According to William F. Pepper's Orders to Kill, however, the conference was broken up by agents provocateurs working for the government.

In 1968, Spock signed the “Writers and Editors War Tax Protest” pledge, vowing to refuse tax payments in protest against the Vietnam War.[8]

Spock was the People's Party candidate in the 1972 United States presidential election with a platform that called for free medical care, the repeal of "victimless crime" laws, including the legalization of abortion, homosexuality, and marijuana, a guaranteed minimum income for families and the immediate withdrawal of all American troops from foreign countries.[9] In the 1970s and 1980s, Spock demonstrated and gave lectures against nuclear weapons and cuts in social welfare programs.

In 1972, Spock, Julius Hobson (his Vice Presidential candidate), Linda Jenness (Socialist Workers Party Presidential candidate), and Socialist Workers Party Vice Presidential candidate Andrew Pulley wrote to Major General Bert A. David, commanding officer of Fort Dix, asking for permission to distribute campaign literature and to hold an election-related campaign meeting. On the basis of Fort Dix regulations 210-26 and 210-27, General David refused the request. Spock, Hobson, Jenness, Pulley, and others then filed a case that ultimately made its way to the United States Supreme Court (424 U.S. 828—Greer, Commander, Fort Dix Military Reservation, et al., v. Spock et al.), which ruled against the plaintiffs.[10]

LOL, that makes sense, I had no idea who Benjamin Spock was, I thought you were blaming the Vulcan character from Star Trek, thinking well perhaps he is inferring kids in the 60's grew up thinking you should logically reason with your kids when they misbehave instead of spanking them....

#GCB bows

The cast isn't as attractive as the ensemble in Eastwick, the show is not nearly as funny, nor as well written, nor as believable.

But Kristin Chenoweth is still Kristin Chenoweth so I'll give it five more minutes before offering constructive criticism on the show's FB page.
