Solomon

Not much for Gucci gear but the French really knows how to design footwear that wraps like a solid pair of gloves. Also couldn’t miss it for $70 at lapolicegear

Almost 2 years in South Asia now n I’ve used it to climb rocky hills near where you-know-who got popped, salsa dancing at embassy, climbing, doing mma, shooting competitions etc.
The last one was when I had to take apft and did not bring running shoes from overseas. The kind msg let me take it wearing boots and in the rain! Ran in low 7 min pace through slick track and water puddles. I guess attitude of gratitude is one adrenaline boost! By God’s grace and mercy I got my TS SCI in 4 days and get to play soldier some more. Some of you know my story

The only drawback i see is a low speed high drag folks like me can get mistaken for hsld

I may have to give Solomon another look.

I've been a Lowa and Merrell guy for a long time now....but Merrell changing the MOAB model not long ago was nothing short of treasonous blasphemy.

That and I've been seeing more folks who actually "do the hard yards" wearing Solomon kicks.

Don’t know bout hard yards but for practical reasons...
If one is a cheapskate minimalist and want to have one shoe to take this is it.
For those pesky multiple screenings if you fly 30+ hours like me, it’s super
convenient to take off and put on... while standing!
Loosen the lacingand I use it for comfy walking clogs and even shower sandals. They dry pretty quick. No I don’t think ill use them in swampy/maritime environment.

My starting criteria is pretty simple. Something with good ankle support that I can ruck with for hours, that I can also do a dead sprint for a mile.
I was skeptical with the string lacing system at first, but now I’m hooked

What model Salomon is that? I'm looking at replacements for the Vasque hikers I've worn last few years.

I have been using the Salomon Quest 4D GTX for my medium length hikes. Very light, Gore Tex and the widths run a little narrow, which works for me. They are not as sturdy as my OBOZ mountaineering boots, but so far I'm pleased. $220, made in China so we shall see. I like my OBOZ better.

Same here; water ski feet. Just revisited this thread - thanks for that piece of info, it's huge.

MOAB2’s have had poor reviews(why fix what isn’t broke).

Quality, durability, design seem to be on decline.

I’m on my last set of MOAB lows(daily civil wear) and waterproof MOAB Mids(field/work).

The MOAB Mids are holding up well, the MOAB lows seem to be wearing out much faster than previous MOAB lows.

The LE/MIL MOAB model you linked to looks bloody solid.

I’m tempted to pick up a pair myself.

Just in the event you actually go for it (the MOAB2 8") same place has it on another page in Coyote here if that matters.

an update.

Consistent w another review online, I’ve noticed tearing at the inside fabric-synthetic stitching. Thread is also wearing out but for 2 years use including abuse w trail running over rocky terrain, I think it’s expected w any footwear. Unwilling to dx it yet, I just use duck tape from the inside as base to adhere to then superglue from the outside. Voila! No more tearing

To be fair, the manufacturer listens to the review which is great and reinforced triple stitch that area in the newer version. Apparently what I have is Xa pro 3D. The xa forces n latest sua ponte are newer n improved. They offer free shipping and 10% off if you use your mil email.
https://www.us-elitegear.com/collect...sponte-mark-ii

I’m saving for another one. I’m just sold w something that go well from salsa to 35lbs ruck (won’t recommend heavier) to 2 mile 14 min in the rain!

Despite the Merrill Moab having better discount, I still went w Salomon from Us Elite gear, that vet vetted gear website. Highly recommended with its military discount, quick shipping, responsive cS etc.

Reason being with the RA flare up and wrists hurt like hell, the Salomon quick lace is a true lifesaver.
It’s a goretex version which I understand is not as breathable, but it’s approaching winter here

You should be able to qualify for better pricing through Experticity/ExpertVoice on Salomon.
