Plastic Mag Carriers, Up-Side Down?

1)does anyone use these or the other similar types of mag carriers?

2) does anyone hang mags upside down??

Seems like they would be useful in a 3-gun match or home defense web-kit, but I don't see them outside the wire..

It looks as though the retention system on those things will hold it no matter what direction your mags are pointing. The problem I see is that if you have to go to ground for even a second, especially in an arid environment, all sorts of pebbles, moon dust, cookie crumbs, whatever, will jam that locking mechanism up and allow your mags to fall out. An even worse scenario would be that they wouldn't allow you to access your mag at all due to a foreign object being jammed in there.

Pretty cool paintball set up though

I know plenty of guys who use that mag carrier as a "quick mag" for combat reloads but have never seen any one of my peers use them upside down.

Bleh

Reminds me of the "magnetic" weapons retainer that was being pushed around not too long ago.

Works well in Call Of Duty, not so much in the box.

I wouldn't mind having a play with ONE mag in that configuration for a few days if I was doing NOTHING but short duration DA/complex urban stuff staying on my feet.

Just to try out the ergonomics and see IF there's any upside(speed).

But I would have zero interest for any environment where I have to get on my guts.

Even basic SASO stuff of just being mixed between sitting in a wagon and on my feet I'd be quite worried about losing the mag during regular movements.

Heck, any time I have to spend a lot of time on my guts away from vehicles I'm more likely to leave the plate carrier and shingles at home and go with belt webbing.

Never used one...

Of course I'd try one at the range (were I given one to test) to confirm but my assumptions are:
1-It's heavier and bulkier than the nylon it replaces-deal breaker for kit. We go lighter and smaller with new technology, not the other way around.
2-Retainers, both for the mag and for the molle may break-nylon mag pouches are more of a wear-out item in my experience.
3-If you mount the mags upside down you are pulling away from the gun and below your waist during a reload-why add that additional complication?
4-It's one more hard thing for your rifle or whatever else you're carrying to bump into and make noise if mounted on your plate carrier. Having a layer or two of nylon over your mags helps with that.

They may be somehow better than the currently common BladeTech et al range belt mag carriers, I don't know. Seems like a gimmick. I would be very surprised if anyone preferred them on a vest.

I ran one on my Combat belt that ran sideways. I carried it sideways so I could get a mag while lying in the prone position. I had no need to do a half push up to get to it.

The FastMag was the ones I used, they were good and you could adjust the tension for holding the M-4 mags. Everything has their PROs and CONs.

plenty of people carrying them upside down on broko belts because the mag can be carried comfortably while still wearing body armor

stranger things being done these days than just carrying shit upside down

Be hard to reach them from the prone.

They work upside down believe it or not. Dust and debris issues-anything is possible but unaware of anyone having issues because of it.

Most people only run one or two of them as a "Happy Mag", usually someplace they can get to them quickly or is convenient.

As someone already said, there are Pros and Cons that could be argued about anything.
