Baltimore prosecutor charges police with murder,

State's Attorney for Baltimore Marilyn Mosby not only throwing cops under the bus but "cheering" as she does it.

How any LEO's can work for an ultra-left wing / progressive / socialist mayor or city is beyond my ability to understand.

And BTW I've never been in the D.C. area without hearing gunfire/ sirens blaring all night long and as far back as the 80's.

Baltimore prosecutor charges police with murder, manslaughter in death of Freddie Gray
Published May 01, 2015
·FoxNews.com

DEVELOPING: One Baltimore police officer was charged Friday with murder, three with manslaughter and two with assault in the death of Freddie Gray, who a prosecutor said suffered a broken neck last month when he was left shackled at the feet and lying face down in a police van by officers who ignored his pleas as they made their rounds.

The death of Gray, 25, on April 19 of injuries suffered a week earlier touched off peaceful protests that degenerated into a night of rioting, looting and chaos Monday. On Friday, a crowd gathered around State's Attorney for Baltimore Marilyn Mosby cheered as she said the police involved would be brought to justice in the incident. Mosby said the police had no basis for arresting Gray, and described a harrowing ride in a van driven by Police Officer Caesar Goodson, 45, who was charged with the most serious crimes, including second-degree murder.

There has been something that has disturbed me about this case since it first became public. First of all the video I found pretty telling as Mr. Gray went limp while claiming injury then stood up after being drug by the arms to the van. He seemed to be perfectly fine at that time which led me to believe he was given a screen test in between that video and where they discovered him unconscious. The other thing was that 5 of the six officers immediately gave statements, which makes me wonder if they were covered under Garrity or not, but the driver of the van refused to give a statement by all accounts that I read. If the 5 do make a Garrity claim it will be interesting to see if the prosecution continues to try them or if they dismiss. Either way I am sure Baltimore has only just begun to see rioting.

I may not be around . . .

I am getting old and no one livers forever, but if the case comes back with "not guilty" verdicts, The City of Bal'more will reach supernova most riki-tik. If I lived there, I would SERIOUSLY consider getting out of Dodge.

Shouldn't both sides wait till the trial is complete and the verdict is in before making any decisions or declarations?

This is fed from the top. It is a PR scam that plays with other peoples lives just like in third world nations. We have all seen it.

My Prayers to the LEO in that place.
It's a set up.

I find it interesting that the prosecutor in Ferguson, Missouri took that matter to a grand jury. The grand jury came back refusing to indict the officer. Conversely, the prosecutor in Baltimore files the charges seeking a preliminary hearing in front of a judge to determine whether there is probable cause to charge the defendants.

There had better be some pretty solid facts to get a murder conviction. 12 people in a jury box can be pretty skeptical.

OK so half the officers getting charged are black...

Well s#!t I wonder what Baltimore would be like if it was known in first place that half the cops involved in the incident were black?

Now everyone can stop rioting/protesting and Al Sharpton can shut up, right?!

Unreal

The probable cause statement given by the prosecutor was unreal. There was nothing but conjecture and speculation about the alleged intent of the officers to cause the injury and subsequent death of Mr. Gray. Having to forcibly restrain a combative subject or someone banging their head in the back of a van or squad (happens all the time) is no where near purposely causing injury or death. Someone said it above about how Mr. Gray appeared to play possum one moment and appeared fine the next. This is something that subjects often do in an attempt not to go to jail. I have seen fake heart attacks, seizures and fainting episodes.

My fear is this is pure theatre to say the "system" is broken. If these officers are not convicted or charged, the prosecutor can say there was an attempt to hold the officers accountable, but the wider judicial system is not capable of policing their own, calling for reform. The court of feelings is in session not the court of law.

The logic TR speaks has been missing from these types of events for as long as I can remember. It's the court of public opinion trumping facts and evidence. Just because someone or some groups wants to believe in their hearts that something is true doesn't make it so.

Nothing like cases tried on CNN before a shred of evidence reaches a jury. Welcome to the internet instant gratification society we seem to have built.

Posts #12 and #13 posit that residents of Baltimore are not familiar with police / civilian relations in their community. MOO, the following pieces offer compelling counterpoints.

YMMV.

Sigaba,

I find it difficult to disagree with Posts #12 /13. The "rush to judgment" hang the bastards, mentality appears all over the internet. More specifically, doesn't it seem a bit bizarre for these fine citizens of Baltimore (under mostly minority administration) to demand more, and better policing, while at the same time demanding retribution for actions from these same police that have not yet adjudicated as criminal.

SnT

Cherry picked from the links you provided.......

Yet the difference between 1968 and today is that Baltimore is no longer a place where blacks are straightforwardly oppressed. Its population is 63% African American. Its mayor, Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, is a black Democrat who won 87% of the vote in 2011. Her police commissioner, Anthony Batts, is black, too, as are most of the city’s police. Baltimore, like Washington DC, Philadelphia and Detroit—and completely unlike suburbs such as Ferguson, Missouri—is a centre of black political control. So why is the city’s police department so troubled

Baltimore is one of the most dangerous cities in America. Its murder rate in 2013 was 37 per 100,000—worse than South Africa’s. In one week of June of that year, the city saw ten murders and 28 shootings among a population of just 622,000. Baltimore is a city where young black men are occasionally killed by the police—and where most days a young black man is murdered by another young black man.

But if you visit a police community meeting in a black neighbourhood, .... you discover that the middle-aged, middle-class black women who attend have a different problem. They complain that the police are not doing enough to stop violent crime.

Dontcha know, laws are emotional. I was once taught: "The law knows no color, just fact." However, that is not the case now. To stave off utter destruction, they've got to manipulate it to make the masses happy. America is Rome, and the mob is America.
