For the Am Radio oprs out there, while prop is in the toilet and 20m during the day isn't working for them, I'm copying the Hurricane Watch Net ok on their 40m freq @ 7268. (and I'm on their backside so they're likely putting very good signals shooting into affected areas).

And by all accounts, the Cajun Navy is in the area. Bulletins regularly updated here. The numbered public advisories are of good use sometimes as they will drill down locations in real English better than a map.

Got bored so the wife and I went cruising the neighborhood in north Fayetteville about and hour ago. Good still breeze, spattering of rain on and off and tons of tree trash everywhere. Leaves, pine straw, small branches and pine cones by the tone. All stuff that will just need a good raking when this is over.

Areas under the big oak trees look like a green mat.

A screen shot of the Weather from the Eastern Continental Divide in WNC... many hurricanes end up here regardless of whether they come from the Gulf or Southeasterly out of Atlantic they run up against the Blue Wall Escarpment at elevation... Florence looks to be losing its energy.

Screen shot isn’t saving. Weather called for a few hours of rain this evening, fog tomorrow and then clear and sunny skies.... some of the cleanest air, just afterwards.

Lost power mid afternoon yesterday so ran around digging out the generator, running the electric lines, fueling it up, etc. Got it all running but not happy with the set up. Power came back on, shut down the generator and went back to house power for the appliances.

Two hours later it went off again and stayed off until just a few minutes ago. Generator worked great.

Wife cooked ham slices and french fries on the grill last night. Used a jelly roll pan for the fries.

Exclamation Mandatory Evacuations

Just FYI...From the Fayetteville PD:

https://fayettevillenc.gov/governmen...er-information

*****MANDATORY EVACUATIONS*****

"There is a mandatory evacuation in place for citizens of Cumberland County, City of Fayetteville, and the town of Wade. All residents within one mile of the banks of the Cape Fear and Little River should leave IMMEDIATELY"

"The Hurricane Florence Information Line (910-678-7657) and the phones in the Emergency Operations Center and Joint Information Center IS BACK ONLINE and fully functional."

There is also a, "One Mile Evacuation Interactive Map" at the link above.

Hope everyone stays safe!

Holly

Edit to add: Cutoff is 3:00pm EST today for Evacuating. The Mayor just announced that after that time, you will not have access to rescue.

Y’all continue to play it safe.

It’s been a year now and people in/around Houston are still cleaning up from Harvey.

My thoughts are with you.

My friends on Big Pine Key are still digging out from Irma

FEMA can be a real PITA to deal with.

Good news is the Key Deer are recovering rapidly and YES, that is an ADULT buck in velvet

Monroe County BOCC
Like This Page · September 14 ·

The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) has approved 41 more canals for the Monroe County-led $49.2 million project to cleanup Hurricane Irma marine debris.

This is in addition to the 103 most-impacted canals in the Keys that NRCS already had approved in the first phase.
In the first month of the project, more than 2,280 cubic yards of vegetative and construction/demolition debris have been removed from 23 canals.

For up-to-date information on the cleanup, including a master schedule of the work and the list of canals to date approved for this project, go to www.monroecounty-fl.gov/irmacanalcleanup. The master schedule should be viewed on a computer due to the amount of information.

Tavernier-based Adventure Environmental was hired by the County to lead the cleanup that is scheduled to last 220 days. Adventure Environmental and subcontractor Arnolds Towing of Stock Island have a combined workforce of about 60 people committed to the project using 4 grapple trucks, 5 sonar boats and 15 barges specifically built to perform in the Keys environment with minimal impact. Wood Environment & Infrastructure Solutions, Inc. is monitoring the work.
