They just reported another, where the women pulled the cat's tail and off her dog, while the husband shot the cat.

My wife and I were hiking on Palomar Mtn. and walked up behind a large male standing across the trail. My first thought was that I had a backpack with salami and cheese on my back. That was the longest 3 or 4 minutes of my life. I could handle a cougar but my wife wouldn't like it . . . unless it was a life threating situation, of course.

Still 2 in the area (mountain lions). Cougars are off the trail and hunting elsewhere until it reopens.

He was lucky and had a strong will to survive. I wonder how well he would have done against a 200 pound cat though. In the past 20 years here in California there have been three fatal mountain lion attacks. One woman was hiking in a remote area by herself, another was jogging by herself and a man was killed while mountain biking.

Cats almost 100% of the time go for the throat crush and neck snap
Backed up by the front paw hug & rear paws pump to the guts.

For the attackee,, Not a lot of room for a win..
