Obama, Amnesty and Fundamental Transformation

With international crisis exploding around the world we essentially leave open our southern border and send the wrong message to millions of potential immigrants.

What must folks stuck in the current legal immigration pipeline think?

FWIW, in one manner or another I have navigated the legal immigration pipeline and it is neither short nor inexpensive.

Obama's Executive Order Amnesty Would Transform America
Investors Business Daily
By PATRICK J. BUCHANAN

According to Rep. Luis Gutierrez, President Obama intends "to act broadly and generously" on behalf of the "millions and millions" of illegal immigrants in the U.S. today.

Gutierrez, who meets often with the president, is implying that Obama, before Labor Day and by executive order, will grant de facto amnesty to 5 million illegal immigrants.

They will be granted work permits and permission to stay. With his pen and his phone, Obama will do what Congress has refused to do.

There is a precedent. Obama has already issued one executive order deferring the deportation of "dreamers," children brought into the U.S. illegally by their parents before 2007.

Alabama Sen. Jeff Sessions is on to what is afoot. "We must prevent the president's massive amnesty from going forward," he says, and urges legislation to block an executive amnesty. But this Congress isn't going to pass such a law. Nor would Obama sign it.

Still, would Obama dare deliberately ignite a nationwide firestorm by declaring an executive amnesty for 5 million illegal immigrants? Why not? Consider the risks and potential rewards.

On the downside, an Obama amnesty would polarize the country, imperil red-state Democrats and cause even allies to conclude he had become a rogue president who adheres to the Constitution and rule of law only so far as they comport with his agenda.

And what is his agenda? As he has said: to transform America.

Obama wants history to rank him among the transformational presidents such as Lincoln, FDR and Reagan. And what better way to transform America than to ensure her evolution from a Western and predominantly Christian country into that multicultural, multilingual, multiethnic, borderless land Teddy Roosevelt inveighed against as nothing but a "polyglot boarding house for the world"?

Obama did not like the America we grew up in. As he told that closed-door fundraiser in San Francisco in 2008, that America was too full of life's losers who "get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy toward people who aren't like them or anti-immigrant sentiments."

What would be the political benefits to Obama of an amnesty? It could weld Hispanics to the Democratic Party, would be wildly popular with the ideological and Christian left, and quietly welcomed by those Chamber-of-Commerce Republicans who have silently supported amnesty and secretly want immigration off the table in 2016.

An Obama amnesty would instantly become the blazing issue of 2014, replacing his foreign policy fecklessness, diffident leadership, and IRS, VA, Benghazi and ObamaCare foul-ups and scandals.

Among Republicans, a roar would arise from the base to impeach Obama, no matter the consequences. But while impeachment would divide Republicans, a Democratic call to arms to save the first black president from impeachment would unite his party and bring the money rolling in.

In the long run, an amnesty that puts 5 million illegal immigrants, most of them from Third World nations, along with their progeny, on a certain path to citizenship, would complete the process of turning America blue.

How would such a blanket amnesty affect our country's future? After this second amnesty, word would go out to the world that if you can get into America, by whatever means necessary, and lay low for a while, there is a near certainty you will be able to stay.

The children pouring in from Central America, we are told, are fleeing repressive regimes. But billions of people in Asia, Africa and Latin America live under repressive regimes.

If all are entitled to come, they'll come. And they'll remake the West and America in their own image, Obama's image, the image of that Tower of Babel, the United Nations.

How many more tens of millions of poor and uneducated people can we absorb before we exceed the carrying capacity of the republic? How much more diversity can we handle before there is no unity left?

As we boast of our ethnic, cultural and religious diversity, what still makes us one nation and one people? For it is not religion. Not culture. Not custom. Not history. Not tradition. Not language. Not ethnicity. It is only a Constitution and Bill of Rights, which we fight over like cats and dogs.

What problems of America — from sinking test scores, to collapsing roads and bridges, to endless borrowing to save our social safety net, to income inequality, to culture wars — will be more easily solved with tens of millions of the world's destitute arriving?

The only problem that will surely be solved by the next 50 million immigrants, who follow the 50 million legal and illegal immigrants who have come since 1965, will be the problem presented by the continued existence of the Republican Party.

I don't know what to say about amnesty or illegal immigration. The only illegal alien anchor baby I know of is my battle buddies' wife. Him an ESL American-Mexican born in L.A., younger brother to a West Point graduate, now an accountant graduated from college paid for by the GI bill. She is a college graduate also. Results probably not typical. A lot of my Army buddies are 2nd - 3rd generation Mexican, just like a lot of the guys I grew up with are 2nd and 3rd generation Italian, Irish, Turkish etc. Foreign language doesn't make it past the grandkids. Other than skin color, most middle class young contemporaries are as far away from La Emme, and MS-13 as Malia and Natasha are from the Crips and Bloods. The overpowering materialstic culture of the U.S. pushes every race towards a white bread, "socially conscious", lightly educated, pop song apex. Thats the new American dream. The epitome of the future American man is going to be a tanned, sissy-boy hipster.

My Town Hall question for my misRepresentative will be "Under this so-called Immigration Reform plan, will these people get to keep their doctor too?"

Looking in from the outside, depending on the total real numbers over time, it reminds me of those science fiction movies involving terraforming.

Political terraforming?

Is Executive action highly likely before the mid-terms?

What stops the GOP from pushing for impeachment after the mid terms, especially if there is a decent chance of the GOP controlling both the House and Senate?

...the word vote
That word just tickles the shit out of me when it is used in context with our current government.

"vote"

Our government has gone well beyond the point where voting has anything to do with governance.

We like to talk about "reconnecting the populace of Afghanistan with the GiROA" as if we as Americans even understand what the fuck that might mean anymore. If EVER there was a populace that needs to be reconnected to the government process, it is the United Statres of America. Our country has become a punchline, governed by sound bites and slogans...
"hope and change"
"Believe in America"
"country first"
"yes we can"
"the real deal"
"a stronger aMerica"
"Forward"
"Prosperity and Progress"
"Building a bridge to the twenty-first century"
"It's Time to Change Americe"
"Morning Again in America"
"Leader, For a Change"

...what a fucking joke.
Worse yet, is that Americans LOVE this bullshit.

Oddly, one thing the Carter/Clinton/Obama campaigns ALL have in common is the desire to change America.
-Well congratufuckinglations on that... its working just as planned. Keep up the good work with the bullshit, meaningless slogans, and we'll keep taking it in the ass and pretending that it doesn't hurt.

At least the Afghans are honest enough to cop to the fact that tribal affiliation is the engine that runs their country. We will fucking argue the color of the natural sky simply because the other party spoke first. The Afghans still have something that died in Americans a generation or twoo in the past...
...spirit.

Thats sad. Its a shame. It's difficult to opine. It's also hard for me to see anyhting on our national stage that can convince me otherwise. There is no spirit left in america. Just empty partisan politics blindly throwing themselves at the wall to see what sticks. Randomly trying to bribe their way into the success during next election cycle.
...bribing the voters with OUR money of course but bribing them just the same.

If the republicans saw an influx of votes with "amnesty and transformation", El Paso would already have a new mayor, and he wouldn't speak english as his first langugae. The street bums from Cuernavaca would already be running for California State senate seats...
...but the assumption is that the illegal aliens will vote democrat, so we gotta stop that shit cold.

Republicans don't give a fuck about what is going on in this country, they are just worried that they might note "hold the house" or "take the senate". Its just a game to these scurvy ingrates. It isn't about right/wrong/good/bad, its only about who has power...
...of course, the democrats and their supporters couldn't give a shit less about the future of our country either, as long as they can use public policy to bribe their way into getting a few more bodies to go out and vote democrat during the next election.

wow...there is that word again...

"vote"

...what the fuck ever.

I don't even know why I bother registering myself as an independent. Its not like it matters.

Impeachment is a losing strategy. Even if the Republicans took the Senate and held the House, they would still need 67% of the vote on the Senate floor. It would take a minor miracle for the Republicans to get to 67 seats in the Senate. No Democrat is going to vote for impeachment because the democratic party would pull support for them in the next election, effectively ending their political career. Without the fund raising efforts of the party and the sharing of funds that goes on, candidates from neither side would survive the primaries after voting to impeach a President from their party. They could possibly get enough help from independents, but if they start down that road and lose, they will get crushed in future elections. It isn't worth the risk. Even if they were successful impeaching, that just puts Biden in the hot seat for two years. There's very little value to impeachment.

The better strategy for the Republicans is to take the Senate and start shoving laws down Obama's throat that are directly opposed to his personal values. Make him veto them. Here's the list of the agenda if it were me...

Keystone pipeline - vote to allow it. Obama vetoes, House overturns the veto. If Obama lets it through, he damages the Democratic base of liberal hippies (not all of them, just the environmentalist side)

Obamacare - vote to repeal it, Obama vetoes, house starts nibbling away at parts of it via amendments and clarifications. (It's too far gone to yank the rug out from under, it has to be incrementally destroyed)

Pass a negligence in government law making it a crime to be negligent while on the taxpayer's dime. Obama will veto because he'll see it as a setup to get charged himself. This becomes a campaign issue with the VA right in the spotlight.

Pass a balanced budget law - Obama vetoes because he doesn't know how to stay in his budget, let alone create one that works.

National CCW making current CCW's portable to all 50 states and territories - Obama vetoes this one loudly. House overturns the veto and turns it into an ad campaign about how the President doesn't believe in personal rights. This one is dangerous for Republicans because it could be flipped, but it would be worth it to get the law in place.

Immigration - make it an instant deportation on capture and instant probable cause for search. Obama vetoes, house overturns.

Pass a law making it a criminal offense for a member of the Justice Department to fail to prosecute a felony. Obama will veto (as he should) the Republicans use that for advertising during the campaign.

edit - one more... Repeal the food standard law for schools (I forget the name). Obama has to veto it because it's his wife's pet project. Nothing like sticking the President with a choice between the "will of the people" and his wife... Then use the veto for advertising to the effect that "Obama wants to starve the children"

and so on. Put Obama on the spot on all the controversial subjects where he is forced to veto. Then during the 2016 campaign, he will be the person saying "No" which will then be fodder for advertisements invalidating his advantage in using the Presidency as a platform for endorsement.
