Key ObamaCare official likely deleted emails now sought in House probe

Published August 08, 2014
·FoxNews.com

A key ObamaCare official involved in the rocky rollout of Healthcare.gov likely deleted some of her emails that are now being sought as part of an investigation into the problems by a House committee, Fox News confirmed Thursday.

The Department of Health and Human Services informed House Oversight and Government Reform Committee Chairman Darrell Issa in a letter Thursday that some of the emails belonging to Marilyn Tavenner, who leads the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services, may not be “retrievable.”

The missing emails belonging to Tavenner, whose agency runs the ObamaCare exchanges, were first reported by msnbc.com.

Issa, whose committee is also dealing with a missing email problem in its probe into the IRS’ targeting of conservative groups, said it “defies logic” that multiple Obama administration officials are “ignoring” federal rules on records-keeping.

“Yet again, we discover that this administration will not be forthright with the American people unless cornered,” he said.

This sounds a bit like the Nixon Tapes debacle.

Except in this case there seems to be a heck of a lot more "tapes" missing from a heck of a lot more people, using modern "tape" technology that makes it virtually impossible to accidentally record over them.

I reckon if you grabbed a bunch of non-partisan insurance actuaries to come up with the odds of such a highly related, but distributed, cluster of IT failures you'd be circa the same odds of winning Lotto back to back to back.

How much of the blame for this(and other) Executive branch crisis being brushed over in the news cycle can be attributed to the highly concentrated ownership of mass media in the US?

How would this(and other) events have been covered in the media 10 years ago? 20? 30?

How much of the seeming unwillingness for news media to cover this(and other) crisis effectively relate to the Telecommunications Act of 1996?

This could fit in the the Lois Lerner thread or any number of threads dealing with the ongoing corruption or the lack of transparency of the Obama administration. If you are not sickened by this administration you're not paying attention.

Watchdog reveals thousands of docs relating to disclosure of taxpayer data to White House
Published December 03, 2014
FoxNews.com

An IRS watchdog is acknowledging that thousands of documents related to requests between the White House and the tax agency for unauthorized tax information exist --- but says it must withhold them all due to privacy concerns.

The revelation by the Treasury Inspector General for Tax Administration (TIGTA) came as part of a lawsuit filed by non-profit group Cause of Action, which began investigating whether the IRS was improperly sharing taxpayer information with the White House in 2012.

Cause of Action originally filed a Freedom of Information Act request asking the IRS to turn over any documents, if they existed, related to correspondence between the IRS and the White House about requests for tax returns for individuals or businesses.

When the IRS said it was unable to do so because of constraints in the Internal Revenue Code, the group filed the lawsuit. A judge ruled that the IRS must turn over any relevant documents to Cause of Action by Dec. 1 to comply with the FOIA request.

On Tuesday, an attorney with TIGTA wrote a letter to Cause of Action, and acknowledged that the watchdog had located “2,509 pages of documents potentially responsive to your request.” Of those, TIGTA confirmed that 2,043 were in fact responsive to the request.

Perhaps TIGTA should publish a list of names of those who were effected so that they could decide if they want their personal info released. They could then participate in the civil suit that is sure to follow.

As has been said, "Once is happenstance. Twice is coincidence. Three times, it's enemy action" We're way beyond that, a long time ago.
