You vomited just once? Are you or have you run a fever? Any other symptoms?

General background of what/when all this started needed. Also, any medications you might have taken or past history of symptoms similar to this?

No fever unless it was a low grade. No other symptoms except an occasional sneeze. Sneezing started yesterday, blood started today. No meds no history. Just a whole lot of stress.

Jimbo-

Off-hand several common things can cause the symptoms you are experiencing.

Based on what you describe it is probably dry-mucous membranes causing a mild sinusitis. Try a humidifier and see if that helps.

You don't usually bleed "out" of your nose(epistaxis) from simple allergies or sinus irritations. If you are swallowing small amounts of bloody mucous you can get those symptoms: coughing up phlegm with a little blood. Allergic rhinitis can cause mild forms of these symptoms too.

The recent sneezing supports my suggestion for likely cause too.

However, its hard to diagnose over the net... Maybe some of the other gurus can help... If it continues through this weekend, or it symptoms change(fever, etc) or become more frequent then I would go see your Doc. Good luck

Another Disclaimer:
Any time a patient mentions coughing up blood, most non-medical background people automatically want to mention/diagnose TB. That is of course a possibility, but not the most likely choice instance with these symptoms and presentation. I gave Jimbo my best guess of the MORE LIKELY cause of his symptoms and told him to see his personal practitioner for follow-up if he coughs up more, vomits blood again( if at all according to him) , or runs fever, etc.

I imagine that Jimbo probably feared TB as well. That is why I gave him info on other more common causes of those symptoms.

Edited ...

Jimbo,
Get your finger out of your nose and go see a doctor. This is not something to be procrastinating on or looking for internet advice.

Everybody else just calm down a little.

Reaper DAMN! LOL

"boom"

"What was that?"

"ATOMIC BOMB?"

NDD, agree with you completely, teammate.

Couple of things occurred to me:

That is not a casual medical question to be asking about with an easy diagnosis, like, "well, I bedded every cheap hooker in Antigua last week, and it hurts bad when I go to pee."

Figured since he was asking, I would give him a worst case, and one that would cause him to seek competent medical opinion in person, ASAP. I don't have my SOAP notes handy, but believe that given the symptoms cited, TB is a possibility.

Jimbo, blood exiting your body is not a good thing, see a Doc, soon.

Sac is doing the same thing I am, which is taking a SWAG consistent with the described symptoms. Neither of us are qualified to render a real clinical diagnosis from here, but are trying to help a brother out who asked via the internet. Neither of us dislike Jimbo so much that we want to win the argument by lying to him so that he croaks prematurely. Note that D9 did not comment.

RL is trying to keep us from being chum for one of his brother sharks. Appreciated, but again, with this internet business, it is all in the tone and smilies. Thanks, Counsellor!

As NDD said, everyone take a deep breath and think before hitting the "Submit Reply" button.

Aloha!

stress in general or stress from this? gosh...tough crowd on the board, eh?

anyway... when you see your doc he or she will need to differentiate between a pulmonary source of the blood and or a sinus/nasal/pharnygeal source since the origin could be either from what you described. Think of post nasal drip mixed with some blood and you can see how a sinus problem could cause mucous mixed with blood.

TB would typically present with fever and night sweats... and a hacking cough associated with the blood... been there, done that but happily tested negative for anything but a pneumonia. With no other symptoms chances are it isn't TB... but you never know until tested.

Since you vomited some blood I would guess an upper source that went down both pipes (esphagus and trachea) and came back up both ways.

As said before, see a doc.
