Kit made Hypertonic substitute...
All credit for the following goes to RESQDOC on LF.com
If you buy into the hypertonic fluid resuscitation argument for hemorrhage (I do) then you are probably considering carrying Hespan, Hextend, or what ever gives your medical control a woody. Fine, if you have it available. Here is an alternative that offers great flexibility and most (but not all) of the benefits of a hetastarch solution: field improvised hypertonic saline, and the ability to make normal saline as well. Most of the hypertonic saline research has been done with either 3% saline or 7-7.5% saline. Small variations on these percentages has shown no significant difference in efficacy. Normal saline is 0.9%.

<ADMIN ADD / EDIT>
While I can absolutely appreciate doing the best you can with what you have, I believe posting these mixtures, potions, concoctions, and non FDA approved "substances" in the clear is irresponsible and can be significantly dangerous.
If anyone would like the specifics of this post, please feel free to e-mail SC.
