Do you know or do you believe? They are not the same thing. Who's SOP are you referring? I doubt the Air Force would allow that, but this is not the first time a pair Navy personnel have been snagged up by "unfriendlies". RUMINT runs high everywhere, and it is worthless. Gluttons for Information
Just my $.02, but as I understand it there is a US Servicemen still "out there" and a full fledged personnel recovery operation ongoing. Do you think it is pertinent to speculate on who this sailor is, what his job / rate / unit is? I know the non-QPs may have no idea about surviving in a non-government detention situation, but for the sake of the poor soul (stupid, unlucky, or both), it might be in his best interest for us not to speculate or discuss his particulars until he has returned WITH HONOR! Once it is resolved we can all throw our opinions around and discuss it at length.

It was reported in another article I read about the situation that they were part of a PRT, but that is only 1 out of several. While I can not say for sure, I highly doubt that any conventional forces are allowed to roll out 2 deep in an SUV, especially in a place like Logar.
EDIT- While I was looking for it I found this, NATO recovered the KIA Sailor's body,

KABUL, Afghanistan — One of two U.S. sailors missing in Afghanistan since last week has been confirmed dead and his body recovered, a NATO spokesman said Tuesday.
The search continues for the other missing sailor, said Lt. Col. Todd Breasseale, a spokesman for NATO and U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

EDIT 2- This isn't the one I read, but it is reporting the same information,

They were reportedly working for a provincial reconstruction team, a military-led development unit.

NAVY FMF Corpsman are attached to Marine Units, There are also Seabees, EOD, ect ect ect... Just as there are Air Force personnel on the ground. I spent 20yrs in the Navy and 13 of those years I was attached to Marine grunt units.
No matter what branch of service I'm amazed that two personnel where allowed to be out there own their own.

Al-Jazeera English is reporting that the second sailor's body has been found.

NavyTimes article reports (my emphasis) that "The sailors were individual augmentees at a counterinsurgency school for Afghan security forces." One sailor was a Hull Maintenance Technician and the other a Culinary Specialist.
These comments are from another board:
Quote:
One of my guys just saw pics of their NTV...damage was worse than the initial news reports.

I saw the pics. Over 120 rounds of 7.62 plus an RPG hit. They didn't have a chance.

My thoughts are out to the families, and fellow brothers-in-arms, who must be stricken by this tragic news.

I think you just summerized why I continually come to this website for fact checking on topics I read about through the day. Too many people "think/believe" and not enought "know."
This is slowly becoming my main news source.
