gun free zone tennessee

With all the talk of suing manufacturers of firearms for the knowingly criminal actions of others; I wonder if anyone would consider legal liability for anyone injured in a gun free zone? If you mandate an area as "gun free" then you should take responsibility for protecting everyone within that zone, to include financial liability for those injured or killed when unable to act in their own defense.

Great job Tennessee

I'm guessing you either posted that prior to the update or you forgot to put "great job" in pink.

Well that sucks

They really f'd the public over on this one. I posted about this a few days ago in a separate thread, but had to go off the grid a few days to celebrate 'murica and freedom and things that go boom - and NO I was not anywhere near Central Park, besides - how many fireworks use pressure switches these days? Ever? lol - yeah, that's what I thought, too.

I have attached the original draft of what was supposed to become law and what actually became law on July 1st. They are worlds apart. TN is still working on legislation that will allow conceal carry holders to exercise their 2A freedoms in the same places as LEO's, but after this I'm not holding my breath.

Even given historically elevated threat level in target-rich victim-disarmament zones, proving gross negligence on the property owner's part would be difficult.* They completely gutted the intent of the original bill & reversed it.

* To view gross negligence & willful misconduct one need only go to a TSA airport screening facility.

I think this is being misinterpreted. As I read it, the amendment protects from liability those businesses that have the right to establish a gun free zone but choose not to. Could have been worded better, but seems to be in line with the intent of the original bill that is meant to discourage gun free zones and encourage handgun carry by means of potential liability claims (authorized for handgun carriers in gun free zones IAW the bill itself, prohibited against businesses that allow weapons IAW the stated amendment).
