Over 35 years in Los Angeles I had many calls to Jury Duty, all but one was Downtown LA. If you've been on JD more than once, you know how to avoid getting picked for a particular trial. They either weren't smart enough to avoid it or want to be on that Jury. BTW, only 2 Alternates is rather suspicious, also. I was on a non-news making homicide jury with the highest possible conviction could only be 2nd Degree Murder (and, after hearing the case, I doubted oven manslaughter applied). It was scheduled to last less than a week and they seated 4 Alternates for that one.

Is this Chauvin's guilt or innocence on trial, or is it the alleged "system" being judged?
How does his predetermined guilt track with the principles this country was built on?
Is falsely convicting a public servant in the performance of his duties before the first minute of court proceedings fair under or new "justice" system?
Does the concept of presumptive innocence until proven guilty no longer apply?
Seems like we can take down another statue, the one of the lady holding up the scales at the SCOTUS and conclude as Orwell did, that some animals are more equal than others.

This trial is CourtTV's headline event. It's being promoted in the fashion of WBC, UFC, WWF, MMA etc....... "MINNESOTA V. DEREK CHAVIN" with "LIVE GAVEL-TO-GAVEL COVERAGE". Starring CourtTV's versions of Howard Cosell, Jimmy the Greek, Dick Vitale, Joe Buck and Chris Berman.
It's definitely heading in the direction of headlines like ' LIVE GAVEL-TO-CHAIR' coverage and 24/7/365 in prison coverage including shower scenes. I would throw in the possibly live betting since this is on the verge (if it hasn't past that point) of becoming a sport of sorts. For example you could bet on how long Whitey Bulger would last in Gen Pop or if Jeffrey Epstein would make it to trial.

I think it needs to be a cultural thing again, that men pitch in where needed. During a time that many pshrinks would call the most formative (or dangerous) I had no father around. But I had a couple role models available in the neighborhood, as well as a couple each of really great uncles & older cousins and a JROTC Commandant. There were reinforcements of right from wrong, getting up to give someone an honest day's labor, keeping the intellectural curiosity going, and stuff like that. I turned out Ok, by most estimates.*
* Except for I'm not a Dodgers fan but - Yes, I DID return that 3/4; if you haven't checked Charlie Co's motor pool bays then STFU and leave me alone.
