Telemed Device Recommendations?

My company is looking into telemedicine devices (hand held) that we could put in the hands of EMT/Ps who are remotely deployed. These should contain protocols for emergent and non-emergent care, formularies, etc.

I am an old 18D and my remote medicine resource was the green 18D handbook that used to sit at the bottom of my ruck.

Any guidance or recommendations would be appreciated.

Can you be a bit more specific in what you are looking for?

There are "apps" for almost everything now, I use medical apps on my iPhone daily in my medical practice.

What capabilities are you looking for regarding the "tele" part? Audio only? Audio and visual transmission in real time? Phone, WiFi or Sat services? Secure or unsecure?

These details will narrow down, or expand greatly, the platforms you have available.

Eagle5US thanks for the response. Currently our medics are deployed in areas that have spotty internet and cell connections when on base, and only HF or SATCOM once they leave the wire. In addition to EM taskings, they are now picking up sick call/urgent care type duties as well. We have written protocols and formularies for both types of practice, the EM based on TCCC and the urgent care based on ATP guidelines.

Honestly we "don't know what we don't know" right now as far as needs. I've not found a lot out there but I know the newer 18Ds were issued a PDF type device and the army is moving toward the Tempus IC.

Am thinking audio, satcom and wireless, secure (in relations to HIPAA not SF 1 time pad level secure).

I can give more details and i will shoot you my contact number in PM.

Tempus IC is a device that I have been looking at for Serach and Rescue remote applications here in AZ. Bottom of a canyon and some of the areas we have are pretty remote. When I some them at AMTC (Air Medical Transport Conference) two years ago, they were talking about trying to get them on every overseas flight for the attendants to use. Patches them into Good Sam in Phx. real time vitals, video, etc. I HAVE NOT PLAYED WITH ONE PERSONALLY. (disclaimer) but they looked interesting.

Thanks for the info and disclaimer. It looks like the military is pretty high on them. I am old school and am not a fan of using things in the field that need batteries but its the new army with GPS, ACOG, etc. so why not telemed. I found some articles on the Tempus. If you get hands on, would love to see your review and your thoughts on using it for EMT/B or basic first aid folks.

Yeah we're working on one. Without the big green machine to help out now... But one of my personal concerns is "Access Telemedicine Services" I know they get you specialists, evac etc, but we are trying to get calls to our personal medical director. But that then is the difference between ALS and BLS and then why need the Tempus IC.

If I get one I'll let you know. Vice-versa.

I am new school and dont like items that arent necessary for me to do my job. Add to that the battery issue and I would rather have a Sanford and the Ranger Med Handbook handy.

Honestly I dont know one 18D who uses the PDAs we were issued a few years back for anything medically related.
