Junior doctors' strike: Live updates as medics stage first full walkout in NHS history

nior doctors are making history by staging the first all-out strike since the NHS launched in 1948.

Medics have been walking out from 8am to 5pm today and tomorrow for the fifth time - but the first involving A&E staff - over 7-day contracts.

Jeremy Hunt admitted that 'this is likely to be my last big job in politics', in an interview this morning. He spent yesterday avoiding doctors by making tiny trips in his chauffeur-driven car.

The Health Secretary had begged junior doctors to halt the strike, warning it would cost lives and the BMA union "wanted war". But the BMA warned he, not medics, will have blood on his hands - both legally and in the public's eyes.

Now doctors and teachers are marching in their hundreds on the Department of Health - joined by Jeremy Corbyn.

I welcome a similar move here. With the satisfaction-based reimbursement for medicare/medicaid, healthcare providers have become enabler and emergency rooms are drive-thru healthcare. Obese is no longer a medical term, can't call anyone that anymore, lest they got their feelings hurt and rate the service poorly.

A huge portion of our medical system is already socialized. Medicare and Medicaid pay for a huge percentage of the medical (fill in the blank) in the US. We have the federal EMTALA law, which says emergency rooms have to treat people, so that has become the de facto initial visit for millions of runny noses and oxycodone fixes.

Democracy doesn't work for an irresponsible people.
