Why American's are getting fat!

My son and I went to the Indycar race up in Phoenix on Saturday. Below is a computer image of the new entrance to the stands. Nice wide stairs, right? What's not shown is the mall-sized escalator that was later added to the plans to the left of the stairs. When we entered, there was a long line waiting for the escalator . . . and NO ONE on the stairs. We took the stairs. When leaving, again, NO ONE on the stairs except my son and I.

I always take the stairs, I cannot stand those escalators or even elevators. When I worked at FDA in Rockville I always took the stairs, 12 flights up. Every time I saw the elevator, there were a herd of people crowded in there, the elevator alarm always going off, and the doors would not close....too many hefty bodies...I always run up the stairs in the airports/malls and give the "escalator" people a wave, and a moo sound....

Hyperpalatable foods.

Food companies have effectively created addictive drugs which happen to have some nutritional value.
They're allowed to market these to children, and start the addiction early.

Exactly..

If you haven't read this yet, I'd suggest it.

The stairs vs escalator theme must be nation wide. There is a new Scheel's store (outdoor/sporting goods) that was just built near here recently. It has a ferris wheel in the center. Going up to the second floor is I wide set of stairs and a narrow up and down escalator to each side. There is never anyone on the stairs!

This and artificial Corn Syrup in everything, I try to avoid that stuff like the plague. The body has a difficult time processing and digesting what exactly Corn Syrup is. No other country uses it like the US, thanks to the lobbying that goes on.

All of that aside, I eat that stuff too and have been 150# for almost 20 years.

We RONed in the RV at a casino and had breakfast in their cafe. I ate half of my hash browns and scraped the poached eggs and ham of my eggs benedict off the muffin. My son had half of his meal put in a doggie box. Too many people eat everything placed before them.

Eliminated processed sugar from my diet, and dropped most carbs.

Finally able to PT heavy again after a back injury.

Down 15+ kg in 3 months.

Feel 20 years younger and 30 IQ points smarter.

We rarely eat out, and when we do I am usually taking leftovers home. When we cook at home I take smaller portions. Nothing worse than that overfilled blooted feeling if you over eat.

But wait!!! Call NOW and we'll double, even triple, your order with The Buffet! (cue angels singing)

I have one of those metabolisms that pretty much burns everything and am pretty weight-stable; while not as much PT can be safely done as 40yrs ago it ain't because I consume 2-3x more sheer quantity of krap than someone would consider doing dishes for. And, yeah, I like stairs. Every day, even at home, multiple times, usually bounding.

Damn, I think I'm on the wrong website. I haven't been 150# since junior high. I love those carbs especially when shaped like doughnuts.

Actually I am trying to lose the beef by cutting back on sheer volume and sugars and carbs but I find my will power is lacking. I could stand to lose 40 pounds and I am sure the body would love me for it.

I'm only 5'6" so that helps. I was 118# in AIT. I was everybody's favorite training dummy for the 150# man-carry. Of course, I had to carry someone heavier than myself. I came out the winner, though, when it came time to test out.

While I like to cook, I don't eat that much and never eat dessert or snacks.

While in basic I was 6'3 and 220# and had a 150# partner, and of course I had to carry him. I felt sorry for the old boy but he was a stocky corn fed man from Wisconsin, but he carried me easier than I carried him I think. I think he got out because of a bad back.

Actually while growing up until I reached maybe 30 years old I wouldn't eat deserts like pies, cakes and cookies. But then around 33 YO I worked at a place where people would bring treats in a few times a week like mostly doughnuts, and then I found my real kryptonite, ice cream and frozen custard.

Since last year or so I am trying to drop some weight for the health benefits of it but still have a weakness for sweets..

It's kind of hard to turn down a nice Danish Kringle.
