ALS- (Lou Gerhig's Disease)

In my area of work (veteran support) I've seen ALS. It was not until several months ago that I learned the veteran to civilian ratio was so vastly different.
The VA quotes a 60% greater chance for veteran than non-veteran to have a dx of ALS.
The focus of research has recently been Gulf War veterans however the 60% refers to any period of military service.

As many know, the VA made ALS a presumptive service connection late in 2008.
My question is, have members noticed friends being diagnosed?

Personally I have only known one individual (no military service history).

From May if you would like to read the article....

There was also a 15 minute clip I watched on real sports with Bryant Gumbel that interviewed NFL players and talked to DRs about the relationship to concussions and damaged tissue working its way into the spinal fluid causing ALS. As of now DRs still have no idea what causes it besides some small relationships they have found in the brain which ironically is the only thing that is not eaten by the debilitating disease.
