Horse Soldiers (the movie)
Currently in ABQ, NM working on a film called 'Will Gardner' (Produced/Written/Directed/Staring Max Martini, also staring Gary Sinise, Jo Beth Williams, and Dermot Mulroney) and found out I just missed the making of Jerry Bruckheimer's upcoming film Horse Soldiers, based off of the book of the same title written by Doug Stanton.
Quote:
Horse Soldiers is an upcoming 2018 American war drama film directed by Nicolai Fuglsig and written by Peter Craig and Ted Tally, based on Doug Stanton's non-fiction book of same name, about the CIA agents and U.S. Special Forces sent to Afghanistan right after the September 11 attacks. The film stars Chris Hemsworth, Michael Shannon, Michael Peña, Austin Stowell, Trevante Rhodes, and Rob Riggle.

Would love to have worked on that one, not to say that I don't love working on the one I'm on now.

Say hi to "Lt. Dan"!
Hope the Horse Soldiers movie is at least half as good as the book.

I did.
He has to be one of the most humblest and down to Earth people I've ever met. We chatted for quit awhile.
I've learned that he and the rest of the "major" cast, are donating their pay to the charities that Max has set up for this movie.

Well, they apparently changed the title of Horse Soldiers.
Here is the trailer. I do not have high hopes, although I know I'll go see it anyway:

I'm hoping they keep it as accurate as possible but it's a fair assumption that Harveywood will skew the facts in order to package it into a neat little story for the masses as they usually do with historical events. The trailer aside, the thing I found disturbing was the negative comments posted by all the socialist family tree fruit: America-haters, neo-fascists, and conspiracy theorists, aka: "COWs" (Chronic Outrage Whiners. [Formerly SJWs.]) You'd think the video was being reviewed by North Korea's film critics.

To this day, some of the very best stories I have ever read include personal accounts of US Army SF/CIA personnel making the initial entry into Afghanistan.
The account from "First In" punching in well beyond CSAR support felt very much like having to plan and launch a "no fail" mission to take over the Moon.
Quite inspirational and all those stories informed/equipped me when I later served in quite remote/austere environments.
I also hope they cover the gritty texture and reality of what it was like because the truth is pretty incredible and Hollywood-ing it would tarnish the story.
I have a confirmed story about our guys that first went in shortly after that's really smart and funny( I use it as an internal case study for problem solving) that will hopefully reach the public domain someday.
I hope this movie has a few of those anecdotes and tells the story well.
The recent film 6 Days did a pretty solid job on realism, shunning the usual visual hyperbole. Hopefully the trend continues.

Whoever is playing Big John Mulholland (and it appears to be William Fichtner) appears to be about ten sizes too small.
Liked the trailer anyway.
Thanks!

Don't see his name in the credits on IMDB. I'd probably have gone with Adam Baldwin. I see that Nate's in it.

Inspirational indeed. In First In and Jawbreaker, both Gary's painted a vivid landscape and the sense of urgency. Truly gave the vibe of good ol OSS. I hope they show the less glamorous albeit comedic aspect of the gastrointestinal battles the team had. Gary was at the level of GO in a regular military structure. When was the last time US or any military send a GO first to behind enemy lines? The agency receives hardly any positive depiction in any media, hopefully it's different this time
The beyond CSAR reach reminds me of a line in MAJ Gant One Village at a Time essay. He described how some team can simply disappear in such scenario. Likewise the heavy casualties at Camp Khost in 2009 would have been lessened had the station chief subscribed to such high risk, high reward pathway
