I am a retired Sergeant Major and a disabled veteran from Special Forces. I will be walking the Appalachian Trail (2,190 miles) with my daughter starting on March 1st, 2018. I will be raising funds for the Special Operations Warrior Foundation ( www.specialops.org). 100% of the donations will go to the foundation and will be used in the following manner:

Go for it, SGM.
Something I've always wanted to do but will have to wait until I'm 67.
Didn't we have a group on the trail last year?
IIRC only about 10% make it the whole way in one attempt.
Very, very high attrition rate the first 500 miles and the last 150 miles kick ass.

Yes, and they are in the planning for another assault next year.

In 2017, US Army Special Forces veterans hiked the full length of the Appalachian Trail to raise over 39,000 Dollars to support our wounded brothers and the families of those Killed in Action.
The 2019 Hike will be open to the Public. Everyone is encouraged to join in this unique opportunity to experience the Appalachian Trail alongside America's Elite Special Forces Green Berets as experienced Trail Guides.
The Appalachian Trail has a way of teaching us, allowing us to find ourselves, a way of healing each other, a moment of clarity.

Paul is doing 100% and independent. The GBAT uses a team approach. Sign up for whatever chunk you can do. They also have teams starting from both ends.

Good on them, the weather in WNC hasn't been a picnic this Spring... Hope their time at NOC was recharging!

Looking at doing this in 2019-20. Probably in stages.

Contact the guys: MOON@GREENBERETAT.ORG
I suspect they will run the 2019 AT walk like the last. You sign up for a chunk that fits your calendar. I also heard they are inviting friends and family this time.
There is a good notes/tips section developed by Bob Bence, x-SF. Bob is a triple crown holder, as he has through-hiked the Appalachian Trail, the Pacific Crest Trail and the Continental Divide Trail.

CANTCO, but I'm down on the GoFundMe page! Great cause, SGM. Thanks for your challenge!
