Qaeda offshoot acquires Libyan air missiles: EU

Qaeda offshoot acquires Libyan air missiles: EU

http://news.yahoo.com/qaeda-offshoot...164233009.html

"Al-Qaeda's north African branch has acquired a stockpile of weapons in Libya, including surface-to-air missiles that are threatening air travel, the EU's counter-terrorism coordinator said Monday.................."

Hmm, the way things are they could turn up anywhere.

"................or certain surface-to-air missiles which are extremely dangerous ......"

Don't say what the "certain" ones are.

I was wondering if something like this might happen and sure enough it did!...

Really makes one wonder who those folks in Libya are and where they stand. Doesn't sound like it was too hard for AQ to acquire the missiles. I'm sure there's going to be more negative fallout after it's all over with.

But still glad that Gadhafi's gone.

It is interesting

It is interesting to note that our government is "leading from the rear" on the side that took them.

Maybe we'll see them again some place.

I believe you could call it Community Organizing..... For weeks, if not months non-MSM outlets have questioned who the rebels are and what their intentions are......all the while Obama, McCain, Kerry have been out pushing this adventure apparently without much investigation into the Rebels.

Q: Which SAMs are extremely dangerous?

A: The ones that have been launched.

Heat-Seeking Missiles Are Missing From Libyan Arms Stockpile

Heat-Seeking Missiles Are Missing From Libyan Arms Stockpile

http://www.nytimes.com/2011/09/08/wo...sile.html?_r=2

".........These missiles, mostly SA-7b Grails, as NATO refers to them, have been spotted in Libya before and are well known to have been sold to the government of Col. Muammar el-Qaddafi by former Eastern bloc countries. The evidence at the schoolbook warehouse confirms just how large those quantities were. It also raises questions about how many of them may have been purloined by rebels, criminals or smugglers. ................"

It's all murky right now

"...........The officer said it was also unclear whether Al Qaeda or other extremist groups had acquired the missiles, though he said intelligence analysts were assuming they had. “But if they do, why haven’t they used or threatened to use?” the officer said. “It’s all very murky right now.” ............"

Anybody check the 'souvenir' stands along the highways leading to Egypt, Algeria, or Sudan? With every purchase of 5 or more cups of tea, you get a free SA-7b.

The SA-7s aren't the real problem.

There are several dozen SA-24s unaccounted for as well.

Libyan SA-24 Can't Be Used as MANPADS

http://www.aviationweek.com/aw/blogs...f-c98fdf99a7a0

"..........He explained that the Libyan Strelets fire Igla-S missiles but they can not be used as man-portable air defense (manpads). “To fire Iglas as a man-portable weapon you need a separate trigger mechanisms that were not supplied to Libya”, he said............."

The last place Russia sold gripstocks ... Venezuela.

The 'no gripstocks' story doesn't reassure me at all.
