The Republic of Georgia

i have a few questions? first off i got picked to be one of the xx Marines from the batt to go and train the georgian army in my idiv expertise in the xxxxxxxxxxxxxx months.

1. What is the current terror situation in the region?

2. Is there need for someone to pack a go bag even if they are associated with a bigger command?

3. Is the georgian language close to russian?

4. (OFF TOPIC) If someone wants to give me tips on doing a small training op I really need because this is new to me and I am in desperate need of answers please

thank you very much in advance

admin edit: Here's a free lesson; don't be a fool and give away such details on the Internet. OPSEC

Is there an intel brief scheduled for you before you leave? Questions #1 and #3 will be covered there. If there isn't one planned, put some pressure on your Intel shop to get it done.

Nothing personal, but is anyone in charge of the FID effort in the Corps who knows what they are doing, or are they just randomly picking people, stamping them with SOF labels, calling them FID/UW experts, and launching them without the proper training, mission planning, and prep?

Go to the library and get the area study for some light pre-deployment reading. If you do not know what language the inhabitants speak, culture and area orientation must be out of the question.

I have spent the majority of my adult life in and around Latin America, speak the language with a 3/3, have been to every country in the theater but two, and I still would not deploy on a mission there without doing a full mission analysis, area study, etc., probably taking a week or more. Read the papers, log onto their internet sites, check their news, get a feel for the people and their culture. Since you are not the first, you might look for some AARs and Lessons Learned.

Picking people to do FID who do not work the same area for their careers is a recipe for disaster. I understand that it is a necessary evil. Asking questions is a good start. Please think what you do through and don't screw anything up for those who will have to follow you.

I am completely blown away...did you even do one bit of research before you put this out here?

You need to reassess what the heck you are doing because if you nut this up people are going to spend a very long time trying to fix it.

I'm going to stop at that...but there is a whole bunch more.

Good grief, you have got to be kidding.
