Greenbrier?

I wonder what the bunkers look like these days. And I don't mean the sand traps with their grassy bunkers. But the posh and eloquent end of the world nuclear fallout bunkers for the Washington elite.

Check out this article from USA TODAY:

Floods put golf course at Greenbrier completely under water

How many and how much will the toilet seats for the next Air Force transport plane cost?

When I first heard of Greenbrier all I could think of was the movie: "The Dirty Dozen" and the part where they were dropping grenades down the air shafts.

If the "elite" want to hide from a war they themselves instigated they will not survive if I find them in hiding.....

I've always figured there was a reason Marines guarded the White House...........just imagine 3 dozen green berets doing the same daily job........ we'd be watching bill clinton porn movies on the internet......

The grenades came after they poured gasoline down the airshafts. Nice touch.

Took a staff ride there not long ago. Was not all that impressed. Engineering wise it was pretty neat. Secrecy wise and mission was all pointless. Most every local knew what was going on when it was built. I'm sure it got a RU target package the day the first foot of concrete was poured.

Today it is a cold war museum that also houses rented data server space for the rich. My understanding is the whole place is still barley hanging on.

The most interesting part of the tour was all the guard areas not set up for protection from the outside, but within. You know, from all those politicians.

Also the furnace was set up to get rid of bodies. Field sanitation you know.

Even if they all made it there in a crisis, I seriously doubt they would have kept it together very long. Maybe days...weeks?

Strait jackets

Finished the bunker tour about five or six years ago. Went walking around the Greenbriar and spoke to one of the store clerks at the shopping area. She said "they" had a special tour for employees. "They" told her that there were strait jackets for the occupants because it was expected that "they" would not stand up to to the stress. I still laugh when I think about Ted K. being at the Gbriar wearing a strait jacket. Haven't even started down the list of others I would like to see in jackets.
My other favorite thought was the long tunnel type entrance had curbs about three feet wide down both sides for about 300? yards with crates of c-rations stacked floor to ceiling the length of the tunnel. Wasn't really a tunnel, the bunker and everything was above ground, just thick cement. It wasn't designed for radiation not blast. The guide told us that different people coming on her tour had told her all kinds of stories. "Supposedly was a railroad tunnel built from DC to the Gbriar.
The thought of that asshole Ted in a strait jacket being spoon fed c-rats just kills me. Sorry I got to stop before this kills me.
Semper Fidelis.

The last place I'd want to be in when things go sideways is in a bunker such as that, or any bunker for that matter. Especially with those kinds of people, won't take long for that situation to get ugly.
Incoming artillery fire being an exception to that although that's not the bonafide point.
Down in the ground, blind, and everyone knows the damn thing is there? Damn near a grave already.
