As far as BOK in my opinion, I told my guys in country to "put it where you can open it and mark it with a red cross". It's very important that they can open it themselves because they know how to help themselves, or at least they better otherwise I'm a crappy medic.

As for turniquets, I have them put one right on their chest just below the quick release, out of the plastic, Velcro tabbed with tape, and secured with rubber bands. I like this because they can reach with either hand just in case, and everyone else knows EXACTLY where it is. They don't have to think about it to rip it off and apply it quickly. Aside from that one, I have them carry another two in their BOK.

I also had a morphine auto-injector, three compressed curlex, two hymens, an 4" ace rap, and needle decompression in the BOK.

Just my $0.02

Hey, you carry what YOU want, and let him carry what HE wants.

Wow, I believe you're right. Though Hymens might be more fun. Stupid iPhone spell check. There goes my cool points. In theory though it might still work... if packaged and sealed right. Or maybe not... Awkward.

Hey, we all have priorities. Some men carry hyfins some carry hymens. Me, I just carry a box of Hello Kitty band-aid's and a tube of neo-sporin!

An 18D, I held in the highest regard once told me that 90% of most medical problems above the waiste could be solved with aspirin, while 90% of most problems below the waiste could be solved with foot powder.

Somewhere along the way we all learned that headaches from dehydration, and poor foot management could take you out of the game quicker that a bullet.

During my last deployment, I worked nights on an Iraqi FOB - the only US person present. First thing I did was add a mag pouch to the back of my body armor and put two AK mags loaded with 7.62x39 in it. The only long guns around were AKs. Weapons found on the ground are usally empty.

QPs,

Thanks for all the replies. I am putting them to good use.

A new question: Anyone run a battle belt? If so, can you ruck with it? Some of the flatter belts work better, but they don't carry loads as well. The thicker belts don't leave enough room for ALICE's waist strap.

Surgicalcric, is that part of the reason you have your belt aid pouch on a velcro patch ... so you can take it off while rucking?

Very Respectfully,

Barn Owl

I wear a pistol belt with my secondary, dump-pouch, (3) pistol mags, and (1) rifle mag...I dont wear a molle/PALS covered belt if thats what you are referring to. Having tried several I find them to be too large and hot to be honest and they do nothing for me that the pistol belt doesnt.

I have never worn my pistol/belt on any missions where I had to wear "the tick" for any considerable amount of time. However my operational time under ruck has been in the jungle.

Having evolved a bit since my earlier post it is now a Maxpedition 5x7x2 pouch mounted on a 1" length of flat webbing with fastex buckles so it can be moved or relocated around my body as needed. This configuration allows me to use the same BOK regardless if I am in full kit or not.

HTH,

Crip
