I may even stop at the grocery store for a can of spam on my way home today.
Spam is the T-bone steak older brother to fried bologna

At the time the SF Company First Sergeant (Finney?) had a old school Mess Sergeant who was outstanding, I suspect our rations reflected his enthusiasm to keep us well fed. In the two months I spent in SF Company I bet I put on 20lbs of muscle and came close to maxing the PT test. Long morning PT sessions in boots, classes from 5th and 7th during the day and we rucked all over COSCOM in the afternoon. Good times.

Breakfast sammiches !

Ok, on the road in a pinch, gotta admit a couple of good ole sausage McMuffins with egg sometimes does the trick.

At home, wheat toast, peanut butter and cover that peanut butter toast with honey!!

Ohh yeah, I prefer the sausage, egg and biscuit myself. No cheese please.

Ret10Echo,

This poster was previously warned to not post again until he provided an introduction, and has failed to comply. I have deleted five posts, all of which were little more than spam and several of which necro'ed threads from years ago. Also, the poster's IP address is in Ukraine, so probably not a legitimate aspiring forum member anyway. I will keep deleting his posts until an Admin finds time to show him the door. No one needs to bother with replying to his posts.

I ate oatmeal for breakfast for a very long time, but then I got very tired of it and now I make these sandwiches each morning. Keep the recipe, you might like it too.

18 slices of bread
Butter (to taste)
6 slices ham
6 slices turkey (or chicken)
Optional: mustard (to taste)
Optional: mayonnaise (to taste)
12 slices Swiss cheese (or Gruyere cheese)
3 large eggs
1/3 cup milk
1/8 teaspoon salt

1) Gather the ingredients.
2) For each sandwich use 3 slices of bread. Butter one side of bread first.
3) Then cover with a slice of ham and a slice of turkey or chicken.
4) Butter both sides of the second slice of bread and spread with a little mustard or other mayonnaise, if desired.
5) Place the bread slice on top of turkey or ham slice and top with 2 thin slices of cheese.
6) Butter the third slice for top; press sandwich lightly and trim crusts.
7) Cut each sandwich into halves diagonally and secure with toothpicks.
8) In a medium bowl, beat eggs with milk and salt.
9) Heat a skillet or griddle over medium heat. Add butter to coat the pan.
10) Carefully dip the sandwich halves into the egg mixture.
11) Brown the sandwiches on all sides, adding more butter to the pan when necessary.
12) Remove toothpicks before serving and serve immediately while still hot and crispy.
13) Pair with fresh brewed guatemalan coffee, a side salad, and a pickle, and enjoy!

Can't believe I didn't catch this earlier. A long time ago in a Cold War galaxy far away, we had a cook. Oh my, we had a cook. He was the Golden Retriever of cooks, SP5IC "Jimmy Jay." This guy must've had assets all over, at least at Battalion, but probably up at the Brigade. Whenever the klaxon went off at oh-dark-thirty, that most beloved of cooks was already there as we were headed down the stairs, out of the building on the way to fight Ivan. He'd already been up and would meet us at the bottom of the stairs and hand each:

Egg, cheese, big non-standard size sausage patty, all between 2 pieces of thick French Toast.

I often think of him and hope he got to have that sandwich shop in Tuscaloosa that he talked about.

We would have killed for that guy.

I would venture to guess we all had a cook that made an impression on us at sometime. Mine was SP4 Starkey a short stocky prior service guy. He did not drive and had a fondness for Wild Irish Rose. Many was the time I took him to the package store outside of the main gate at Ft. Campbell to get a bottle. He always had a set of nunchuks tucked into cook whites while serving in the chow line. I am sure he was no culinary genius just one of many memorable figures from my military days.
