I have been watching it since it started this season and was able to watch its marathon series yesterday. I enjoy it and am amazed to see the amount of work they are able to achieve in such a short amount of time using the materials they are given to work with.
Up to this point, I haven't seen any names that I am familiar with except for the judges, but, I think I will keep watching.

Makers I know may be coming up.
I automatically hate any show that uses the "Survivor" format of host that stands there looking tough and giving orders.

Gabriel Bell is on this one tonight. He is a hell of a bladesmith, his dad and I are longtime friends. Show is just starting now.

The guy dressed up like a Japanese dude cracked me up. I wanted to call him Kaitlyn-san.

I watched the first episode and that was it...... Too much competition and limitations.
I would really love to see a more demonstrative or documentary type show. The completion and manufactured drama kill it.
One of the Discovery/History channels did a documentary about a Smith making a sword using traditional Japanese methods and it was fascinating.
I may be thinking of the show 'Samurai' with Mark Ducascos... LINK

There are several on PBS/NOVA that are interesting and informative concerning the making/history of Samurai swords.

Watched part of a show while channel surfing in my hotel room last week. Could not handle the format. I ended up watching way too many videos on youtube that were way more interesting & way more educational regarding forging & grinding blades. It has been almost 25yrs since I have done any forging or blade grinding. I helped my buddy hammer out a schmitar in HS while I ground blades out tool steel stock and saw blades used to cut steel stock. Our school had an awesome metal shop. I miss that shit.

Reality shows are almost always predicated on making the subject look like an asshole. I am quite capable of doing that all on my own. Besides, that would be the worlds most boring show. Let's watch DJ as he spends the next eight hours:
A) Standing in front of the grinder in the hot shed, sharpening 52 knives and drinking two gallons of water.
B) Standing in front of the workstation, programming stuff in Solidworks while muttering curse words under his breath.
C) Standing in front of the effects processor, drinking beer and playing the bass.
