what kind of goodies will i need to bring that they arent going to issue me?

Off the top of my head:
Polarmax or Under Armour T-shirts
Good socks, I use Ingenious
A memory stick, at least 256 mb but with prices coming down you may be able to swing a 512mb or greater. I don't know your budget.
MP3 player, 256 mb or greater, better still is an iPod
a laptop with DVD.
Spare earphones for your walkman/ MP3 player
If you take a digital camera get a 128mb memory card for it, 64mb as a bare minimum.
Have someone back in the states ship additional stuff as needed, you could even pre-load boxes if you wanted and have them ship it upon receipt of an email form you.

I know there's more, but I can't think of them right now. Look for a My Gear List thread to see what I took as a contractor. That may help you somewhat.
