Read that, thanks. I read most others when they come out. Always intrigued me about this plan to takeoff from New Guinea and hit a literal speck (Howland Isl) 2,200 nm away that, on a good day, has its terrain maybe 20-ft above sea level. There's not even a remnant there of a runway; at least Baker Isl has the remnants of a crushed coral strip. This old school blue water navigation is tough & my Dad told me tales of what was needed in celestial skills as well as that Trig you paid attention to in class. As Paul Newman said in the movie "Absence of Malice" if you miss it, "well, you'll be gone for awhile."
