One day I was getting worked on by a Group PT (whose husband happened to be a medically retired 11B, so she had a pretty good idea what the physical costs of our lifestyle were). The patient next to me was a 24yo super fit (scoring 300 on male APFT standards, 8-10 dead hang pull-ups, etc.) "hot runner" intel female who was trying to decide between going to TFO selection or Green to Gold. The conversation between her and the PT went something like this.
"Well, what do you want to do? You already had reconstructive surgery on one ankle and you need it on the other one."
"If I get surgery than I won't be able to go to selection or do Green to Gold because I will be on a medical profile. Can I put it off?"
"Sure, but eventually you will end up half crippled. I told you, your best option is to medically separate, go to college, and live your life."
This was a conversation between a mature, very driven, very professional woman who knew what she was talking about and a very young, very inexperienced, and overly self-confident woman. Discretion is the greater part of valor and sometimes you got to ask, am I the right person for the job.

These studies show that women are built for endurance and outperform men in ultramarathons:
https://journals.lww.com/acsm-msse/f...races_.13.aspx
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/33502701/

“Women are shown to be less susceptible to fatigue, which means that when they are doing strength exercises, they can go on for longer than men. And the difference isn’t trivial; in research studies, women keep performing, rep after rep, for 60% longer than men doing the same resistance exercise. Better still, in the second half of the menstrual cycle, when progesterone is high, this effect is amplified.” - The Female Body Bible by Dr. Emma Ross, Dr. Bella Smith and Baz Moffat, page 160

“Certain characteristics of women’s physiology may also provide an advantage in marathon swimming. Women tend to have a higher body fat composition in comparison to men, something that’s considered a disadvantage in most other sports. But in swimming, higher body fat percentage translates to added buoyancy, meaning athletes don’t have to work as hard to stay afloat.

Over an eighty-seven-year period, the fastest woman to ever cross the Catalina Channel in California bested the fastest man by twenty-two minutes. When it comes to swimming a lap around the island of Manhattan, the top ten women were 12 to 14 percent quicker than the top ten men based on thirty years of finishing times.

Excellent article and valid.

The Brits found the same physical degradation when they ran tests on female infantry in the 1980's. Their finding was that the best and brightest of females in service will be medically discharged due to injury...do we want that to happen?

The test was ignored on political grounds as is the norm today still.

During one of daughter's 10th Mtn breaks between A'stan tours she was going to train-up and participate in a sort of 'fake' EIB test event. She was in pretty good shape, enjoyed rappelling, climbing, and loves land nav. She had to leave because playing good NCO to one of her troops who was having some suicidal ideations. Anyway, afterward, she would happily tell any "I am woman, hear me roar!" types to STFU because they had no idea the damage that is done to the lower back & pelvic region just from moving under loads like men are required to move from A to B. Sorry to intrude but that 1st hand take seemed relevant.

Interesting thread.

I will say we had a very competent lady at Blue Light with us.
A very valuable member of the team.

Yes, well aware...but she had a specific mission that only a woman could perform and there are those who are in that same position today.

She was not humping a 110 lb ruck...and if she had, for any length of time, she would have self withdrawn due to physical injury.

No one is questioning the valor or patriotism of female soldiers.... not I. All of the services need volunteer's and females do so and with my appreciation.

It is the application of setting them up for failure on the horns of political correctness that is both dishonorable and detrimental.

I agree 100%. Specific mission. PC is not helping our fighting force.

Can't or shouldn't? Because they can and have....although I don't include the one 3rd Group Transgender in the mix...regardless of what anyone says.
